The PEN World Voices Festival, which brings authors together for a multi-day, multi-venue festival across New York City, will be led by László Jakab Orsós, the PEN American Center announced Tuesday. Orsós is the former director of New York’s Hungarian Cultural Center, where he launched an event series with the delicious title Extremely Hungary.

The 2010 PEN World Voices Festival featured 150 writers from 40 countries. Some of those authors traveled to American cities beyond New York, including several who made it to Los Angeles.

The PEN World Voices Festival is organized by the New York-based PEN American Center; Western states have their own PEN affiliate, PEN USA. PEN centers around the world work to defend free expression and promote international literary fellowship.

The next PEN World Voices Festival will take place from April 25 to May 1, 2011.
