Did this really need to be a book?

Certainly women should feel gorgeous and be confident. Nobody’s saying we shouldn’t.

But does how we tend our nether regions really make that much of a difference? And if so, does anyone really want to read a book about it?

“Brazilian Sexy: Secrets to Living a Gorgeous and Confident Life” is by Janea Padilha, with the help of writer Martha Frankel. Padilha’s biography reads:

Janea Padilha of the J Sisters Salon knew how to shape an eyebrow before she was out of kindergarten. Inspired on a Brazilian beach, she invented her signature waxing technique, and the salon she started with her sisters is now a multimillion-dollar business.

The book is published by Perigee Books, a division of Penguin Group USA.

It isn’t just about waxing. It’s got Padilha’s tips on how to “develop and approachable, irresistible glow,” how to “experience the ups and downs of life with gusto” and how to “eat, drink and live it up while staying fit and fearless.”

And, of course, it tells the story of how she came to invent the Brazilian wax. “This was the craziest thing,” she writes, “but I was determined to do something that would change this hairy situation.”

Maybe this is one cultural phenomenon that didn’t need to be chronicled in a book.
