Arnold Schwarzenegger is on his way out of the California governor’s seat, and new hopefuls are lining up to try to take his place. On the Republican side, the two front-runners for the June primary appear to be Meg Whitman, the former CEO of EBay, and Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, a former Silicon Valley entrepreneur. Our new California Politics blog points out that their rivalry will begin in bookstores.

The race between Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner begins Jan. 26. That’s the day Whitman’s new book, ‘The Power of Many: Values for Success in Business and in Life,’ hits the stands. Not to be outdone, Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, Whitman’s chief rival for the GOP gubernatorial nomination, is also getting into the act. Poizner’s forthcoming ‘Mount Pleasant: My Journey from Creating a Billion-Dollar Company to Teaching at a Struggling Public High School’ will hit the shelves on April 1.
