L.A. Festival of Books at UCLA gets off to a cool start
It's beautiful weather at the L.A. Times Book Festival at UCLA as panels are starting to get underway this morning.
Unlike the scorching heat of past years, temps today are in the mid 60s -- perfect for walking around campus from stage to stage.
Some highlights today at the Children's Stage: Playhouse Disney's "Choo-Choo Soul" at 1:25 p.m.; Eric Carle, author of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" at 2:40 p.m.; and Yeardley Smith, voice of Lisa on "The Simpsons" and author of "I, Lorelei" at 3 p.m.
For information on all panels and sessions, go to the Festival of Books website.

A terrible accident occurred just after we walked under the foodcourt archway about 2:30pm. The wind blew over the metal archway and the beam fell on people. Paramedics were called. We hope no one was seriously injured.

As an attendee of this wonderful event every year I was very upset with this years lack of Book Festival merchandise to be purchased as mementos. At 4:00 everything was Sold Out at every LA Times kiosk. I was told there will be none for tomorrow attendees. Very poor planning.
