Portsmouth, a small historic town along New Hampshire’s shore, is home to RiverRun Bookstore, a 6-year-old independent. Energetic events manager Michelle Filgate is looking forward to a book that will hit shelves in June:

I can’t wait for PEN/Faulkner winner Kate Christensen’s latest novel, ‘Trouble,’ to be published so I can sell a bunch of copies to people looking for that hard-to-find smart and sexy beach read. I’ve been a fan of Christensen’s since reading her comical anti-hero novel, ‘The Epicure’s Lament.’ Anyone who can write about a chain-smoking sarcastic misanthrope and make him hysterically endearing is a talented writer in my book. In her latest novel, Christensen makes a complete departure from her previous work but proves again that she’s a writer of diverse style. Two longtime middle-aged friends both going through complete transitions in their personal lives meet up in Mexico to throw caution to the wind and lean on each other’s shoulders. ‘Trouble’ has the perfect mixture of well-written sex scenes (Yes, I did just say well-written sex scenes), adventure and introspection that is capped off by Christensen’s always witty dialogue. She’s this generation’s Dorothy Parker.
