Looking around at more book recommendations

Sure, we've been providing lists all weekend, but we just can't stop. It's not that there are so many as much as that they all make the books sound so good.

The head of the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas, Thomas F. Staley, shares what's on his bedside table. Topping the list is "Unpacking the Boxes: A Memoir of a Life in Poetry" by Donald F. Hall, former poet laureate.

Our colleagues at Metromix have picked their favorite beauty and fashion books. High end or low end, they do like Tim Gunn and make it work.

The blog The Millions has been posting its Year in Reading, a pile of recommendations with no restriction on the year of publication. Recommenders include authors like Elizabeth McCracken ("An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination"), who declares "The Maytrees" by Annie Dillard "one of my favorite books of all time." Other contributors include Ander Monson, Joan Silber (full disclosure: me, eventually) and Nam Le, whose debut collection "The Boat" is one of our favorites this year.
