Geoff Nicholson, author of ‘The Lost Art of Walking,’ is blogging a few of his favorite walking anecdotes that didn’t make it into the book. Like the time Samuel Beckett vehemently declined a pimp named Prudent and wound up getting stabbed. He’s at the Powell’s Book Blog.

Annie Leibovitz shares her favorite photography books at Amazon, including Weegee’s ‘Naked City’ from 1945. Weegee captured nighttime street scenes -- often crime scenes -- with a brutal flash. ‘Weegee was a newspaper photographer and he didn’t care about the pictures being pretty,’ Leibovtiz explains. Her new book, ‘Annie Leibovitz at Work,’ is #9 on our nonfiction bestseller list.

Author Tania Hershman stopped by Eco-Libris on the blog tour for her collection, ‘The White Road and Other Stories.’ A British-born former science journalist, Hershman now uses science as a jumping off point for her fiction and makes her home in Israel. She writes, ‘after London, Jerusalem feels like a village to me, it’s a manageable size, I can go places on foot, friends live in walking distance, I have my favourite cafes, the food here is fantastic.’ She cites Etgar Keret as a ‘huge inspiration.’

The music and literary website Stories in Hi Fidelity has pulled together an of-the-moment playlist about shoes and ducking. Nancy Sinatra? Check. Amy Winehouse? Check. ‘Flyin’ Shoes’ by Townes Van Zandt? Yes indeed.
