Update: Seltzer's agent speaks

March 5, 2008 |  6:34 pm

Faye Bender, Margaret Seltzer's agent, had this to say in a brief phone conversation about her role in registering the website for International Brother/SisterHood, the supposed nonprofit with which Seltzer claimed to be involved.

"Peggy," Bender says, "portrayed Brother/SisterHood as a budding new organization designed to mentor young gang members. She said she didn't have the financial means to host a website, so I did a favor for a client, and registered and hosted it. The information up on the website was information that she provided."

Thanks for making the phone call, David. It's good to know that the Los Angeles Times is committed to not simply playing armchair aggregator, and that it has every intention of being pro-active on the journalism front.

Here's riverhead's new deal they are going to run with all the free publicity.there's actually a lot of insider info in between these lines.

I would hope that the publisher files suit for breach of contract. I read the link to the interview with the "author" and am disgusted. The agent needs to be axed.

"...the supposed nonprofit with which Seltzer claimed to be involved."

That's ridiculous, David. The only one who "supposed" that International Brother/SisterHood foundation or organization is a "nonprofit" is Carolyn Kellog, in her blog entry at http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/jacketcopy/2008/03/margaret-seltze.html.

If you or Carolyn have any evidence whatsoever that either Seltzer, her agent, or her publisher, has claimed that this alleged organization is a not-for-profit business, please post it. Otherwise, please stop pretending to be journalists.
