Boyle Heights: Daisy Flores, 26

Daisy Flores, a 26-year-old Latina, died Friday, Sept. 4 from complications related to a shooting eight years ago at Malabar Street and Evergreen Avenue in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner's officials.

Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said Flores was shot in the spine in a gang-related shooting. The gunfire left her a quadriplegic, he said. 

Winter said Flores died of pneumonia. She was in a hospital at the time of her death.

No information about the circumstances surrounding her shooting eight years ago was immediately available.

Lincoln Heights: Heliodoro Cantoral, 44

Heliodoro Cantoral, a 44-year-old Latino, was hit over the head with a beer bottle and died July 13 in the 2600 block of East Lacy Street in Lincoln Heights, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

Police tape from the park in the 2600 block of East Lacy Street in Lincoln Heights where Cantoral was struck with a beer bottle. Cantoral was in a park drinking with a group of homeless people when he got into a fight, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. One of the people present struck Cantoral with a beer bottle, police said. Cantoral was taken to a hospital for treatment.

At the hospital, Cantoral went into cardiac arrest. Doctors performed open heart surgery, but he died later that day, according to the LAPD. Police have no description of the suspect.

El Sereno: Rodolfo Hernandez Rivas, 24

Rodolfo Hernandez Rivas, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and died on July 9 in the 5000 block of Henderson Street in El Sereno, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

Craig Harvey, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said Rivas went to the location on Henderson Street to look at a car that was for sale. The circumstances that led up to the shooting are unknown, but police received reports of shots fired about 8:56 p.m. and Rivas was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:08 p.m., Harvey said.

Boyle Heights: Roberto Alcazar Valencia, 29

Roberto Alcazar Valencia, a 29-year-old Latino, was shot in the chest and back and died on July 6 in the 700 block of North Soto Street in Boyle Heights, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

Police found Valencia shot in his home about 7:40 a.m. after neighbors witnessed the shooting and called police, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Fire Department paramedics, according to the LAPD.

Boyle Heights: Pedro Xochipa, 21

Pedro Xochipa, a 21-year-old Latino, was shot in the head July 4 in the 3400 block of Eagle Street in Boyle Heights and died the next day, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

Xochipa was attending a Fourth of July party when there was an argument and confrontation, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office. Xochipa was shot during the argument, and the suspect fled the scene, Winter said.

The argument and shooting happened about 11:30 p.m., and Xochipa was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1:30 a.m.  July 5.
