On Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, The Times launched a new version of the Homicide Report. You have arrived at the old blog.

Readers can no longer post new comments on this site, but we encourage you to join the conversation on our new site. The updated Homicide Report features an interactive map and searchable database of the more than 2,600 homicides in L.A. County since January 2007, when Times' reporter Jill Leovy first started this blog with the goal of covering each one.

Comments prior to Jan. 26 will, at least for now, remain archived here, with links provided in the new database.

If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail homicidereport@latimes.com, and we will do our best to respond.

According to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department news release, Corral was standing in the street about 1:45 a.m. when two Latinos in a dark-colored car drove up to him. Corral and the men "exchanged words" then at least one of them shot him in the chest and abdomen, according to the news release and coroner's records.

Corral was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:25 a.m.

Anyone with information about this killing is asked to call Sheriff's homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500.

why aren't the sherriffs looking for the suspects when they already have leads on them!!!!! They need to stop wasting time and start doing the investigation!!!!!!!!

nancy rodriguez, are you rpivy to the investigation? Are you qualified to know if there are enough evidence to prosecute a suspect in the first place?

Nancy,

What makes you think that the Sheriffs have any leads? The story indicates a general description of the suspects. Plus this idiot was standing in the middle of the street at 1:45 am which also indicates that he wasn't standing there wishing anyone a Happy New Year.

WHAT EVER THE CASE SOME ONE LOST THERE LIFE EVER THINK ABOUT THAT OR WHAT THERE FAMILY IS GOING THROUGH.

Gerardo was a 27 yr old man who should've exercised some wisdom. What was he doing in a dangerous part of town @ 1:45am? Anyone who does that after everything that we read about homidides is looking to die. Sorry for sounding a little insensitive but c'mon.

Tami,

You are so right...this person died on the streets by himself with no one there to comfort him, no one there to help him transition from this place to the next. You are right someone should have been there...too bad he didn't think about the final moments of his life before standing in the middle of the street and yelling at someone in a car.

Hey Outraged_Father,

I hope you lose one of your kids simply because he or she was out late in a dangerous part of town.

Hey people who live in dangerous parts of town,

Stay inside at all times or you are "asking to die"--at least according to outraged-father.

How do you know that he hadn't Just arrived home and was on his way into his house when someone pulled up & rolled down their window to say something to him? That makes more sense to me. But I wasn't there. Were any of you there? I didn't think so! So keep your rude comments to yourself. Someone lost their LIFE! Tomorrow it could be you

Dose it really matter what time it was? The fact that someone was killed is horrible. His mom ,grandmother, sister and bothers hell his family in general is grieving. He still was a person with a soul. This was a cousin of mine sure it's easy to say walk away or what ever the deal. They still would have shot him what he just wouldn't see it coming would that be better? The only things this says to me is we have lost a love one ,it's a reminder to cherish every moment we have will them.I have been lucky to have moved away from there at a young age and showed that we have a chance at a better life.My cousin didn"t have the same opportunity that I did.He still was loved and will be missed.

YOU NO WHAT THE SAD THING ABOUT THIS CASE IS I AM A FRIEND OF THIS PERSON AND I WAS THERE AND WATCHED HOW THE SHERIFFS LET HIM DIE.

the detectives arent doing a damn thing about this case. they havent questioned anybody and it dosent seem like theyre even going to.

Dear Resting,

What didn't the Sheriffs do? What do you call just standing there doing nothing...be specific. Oh and before you respond to this post make sure you know what the Sheriff's duties are to someone hurt like this person is hurt. I'll save my comments until I hear back from you. Now as far as questioning anyone who shall they question? It doesn't sound like they have much information to go by. I don't remember reading a post from you as to a descripion of the persons involved in this crime. If you have a description let us know may be someone out here can help find the person(s). Waiting to hear back from you.....
