Compton: Kenneth Barnes, 38

Kenneth Barnes, a 38-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, Dec. 3, in the 1300 block of South Long Beach Boulevard in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s officials.

Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner’s office, said deputies patrolling the area heard gunshots and went to investigate. Barnes had been driving a vehicle at the time of his shooting and when deputies arrived at the scene he had crashed into parked cars, Winter said.

The shooting happened about 8:25 p.m. and Barnes was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:50 p.m.
