Luis Eduardo Perez, a 15-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Dec. 7, in the 2100 block of East Cesar Chavez Avenue in Boyle Heights, authorities said.
Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said Perez was standing near a bus stop when someone walked up to him and shot him several times.
The shooting happened about 7:30 a.m. and he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead 10 minutes later. Police are calling the killing gang-related.

killing a 15 year old at 7:30am???? The murderer probably hadn't even ate breakfest yet.

Wow! This is why I support the police when they go out and gather up these low life gangsters in the middle of the night, and drag them to jail, because if they don't this is what we get all the time, these gangsters harassing and killing our young kids. That did not have to happen, and now a mother and your family are torn apart because of some low life coward that have no value for life.

How about an LA Times followup to this homicide. Who was the 15 yo and what prompted him to be slain? "Gang related" is so generic now.
Posted by: syscom3 | December 13, 2009 at 02:08 PM
If this was gang related like police say, I always wonder if you are a gang member why not carry a loaded gun all the time so you can at least defend yourself when someone is trying to kill you. I'm not saying it's right to carry guns but you can't go to war without a loaded gun!!!!
Posted by: Pancho | December 14, 2009 at 09:32 AM
Pancho,
Why not carry guns? Because dummy bullets don't always hit the intended target and it is against the law to carry a gun, it isn't just wrong. Not only that but those people don't have the sense God gave them to stay out of gangs do you really think that they would have any sense at all when it comes to taking out thier guns and using them? If that were the case we would have fewer killings going on.

ignorant third world rejects like Pancho are why California has become a cess pool.In order to make him happy let us pass legislation so gang members do not have to "go to war without a loaded gun" I mean how unfair is it that he could not fire back as a soldier should?Let all gangs march to Washington D.C. and demand the right to defend themselves along with thier prized Turf? This way we can experience what Mexico is experiencing with their drug war.

Maybe davidozone doesn't carry a gun but im born and raised in this country, served in my military and thanks to the low life cowards i def carry a loaded pistol for protection. I am a contributing member of sociaty and im not gonna lose my life for some BS. I'm Ready.

Wow is all I can say is that the READING COMPREHENSION in this blog is proof positive that the public education system is failing. Lets see if it can be cleared up.
Pancho-I don't have much to say about your comment. I too have always wondered why if your going to be a gang banger why not go all the way and pack all the time. Now note neither Pancho nor I said we should make it legal for gangbangers to carry guns we simply are wondering why if you are going to be a gangbanger why wouldn't you go all out and protect yourself breaking the law is generally the last thing on these gang bangers minds.
Sofia and David-Hopefully this clears up the post for you. In the future read and re-read before you post.
Joe B-Right on!!!! All these gun control laws do is make victims out of law abiding citizens.

Joe B T,
again bullets don't have eyes nor do they have brains to tell the difference between the person you aim and and some innocent bystander. Not even with all your years with the military are going to prevent you from possibly hitting some innocent standing on the street. Nor is all your years of past training going to do you any good five or ten years after you leave the military. I hope you are ready to face the music of your actions no matter what the intention might have been. Hitting and killing some kid standing or walking home from school is not going to comfort some mother and should not get you off of any charges.

First of all, because the Police said it was 'Gang Related' does not mean the victim Luis Eduardo Perez was a gang member or even associated in a gang.
The fact it was an execution style murder - the suspect walked up to the victim and shot him. The most common thing that causes these types of shootings is gang members mistake innocent victims to be associated with another gang. Gang members will usually ask "Where are you from?" and to just say Boyle Heights, Lincoln Heights, El Sereno is enough to get you KILLED.
The fact that someone, maybe the victim told the Police or Paramedics what happen would lead to fact the Suspect looked like a gang member.
Secondly, if you can carry a hand gun legally it would not apply to this teenage victim, as he would not be allowed to carry a hand gun legally.
Some questions we should be asking is why is the State of Texas - a Right to Carry a Firearm without a license - is the state with the LOWEST BANK ROBBERY levels than all other states in the 48 continental states.
Why is it so hard for a law abiding citizen to get a conceal weapon license in southern California, but in Kern County has the highest Conceal Weapon Licenses issued.
And, when LAPD, LA County Sheriff Dept say they do not give out Conceal Weapons Licenses, they tend to mislead the public as ALL Retiring Officers get one. The sole purpose for the Retiring Officer to a conceal weapon license is for employment after retirement. The Retired officer are no longer covered by his/her former Police / Sheriff Dept. In fact, the retired officer has the same standing any any private citizen. They tend to work special security jobs that required them to be in plain clothes and carry a handgun.
Being a former Police Officer does not mean you can shoot straight either, I know from my experience with former officers I have requalified with at a shooting range some have trouble meeting the standard. Some I would not work with due their shooting was so poor, but yet they have a conceal weapons license.
Those who have served in the miltary know in a shoot out (fire fight) people are scared and do not hit the targets very well. You tend to want not to get shot, so you shoot in a wide zone.
So even if the teenager had a gun, he might have shot back, maybe wounded his attacker or an innocent bystander. Would he be any less dead by having a handgun?
Only GOD would know.

JRock,
We are not victims as a law abiding citizen. We are free to choose if you want to carry a gun and take on that responsiblity then go ahead. You and you alone will have to account for your actions with that gun. Why don't gangbangers carry guns...simple, while alone and without the "protection" of their fellow gang members they are not as BRAVE as they like to think that they are. Just like any of us. Given a situation where anyone of us would have to choose to take a gun and pull the trigger into a crowd or at an individual is a monumental life changing decision. There is no going back and doing a do over if the wrong person is shot or if you miss your mark or if the person you are shooting at has a gun for the same reason protection. There is no justifiction for taking someones life that is going to make the persons relatives feel better. As we have read over and over again, about condolences given to a man or woman's family or a child's family...a lot of good that does or comfort that brings to a family. We can stand one by one across america and tell a mother how sorry we are but that's not going to bring back her baby. But I digress, why don't they carry guns...because they are too afraid! There is comfort in numbers without the idiot standing next to him egging him on or the idiot at home waiting to tell him just do it. None of them have the good sense God gave them to walk away to know that at the very least they have the ability to walk away and live to see another day. So why don't they carry guns??? Because they will come across someone like me who will sit beside them in a restaurant and see the barrle of a gun sticking out or ride with them on public transportation or run across them while shopping and NOT hesitate to call the police to take the gun and the idiot holding the gun to jail even if for a few hours...maybe that would be the difference between the mother of a 15 year old planning a funeral and her getting ready to buy a Christmas present. That's why they don't carry guns. Hopefully you'll read my posting again and again....

Sofia-I don't even know where to start with you. First off if I chose to carry a gun with out a permit I would no longer be the law abiding citizen I'm proud to be and in this city getting a concealed carry permit is next to impossible. So yes the backwards gun control laws in this city are making law abiding citizens victims everyday. Can you understand that? If not I cant make it any simpler for you and you will just have to figure out these things on your own.
As far as the rest of your rant I don't really care what gangbangers do or don't do I was simply wondering out loud but thank you for that long long long winded answer.

Jrock,
You are more then welcomed. If figures that you would not be able to have a conversation in which an opposing view point is expressed. I find it very interesting that you want to be able to carry a gun and yet your temper and temperament displayed here is/are the exact reasons why gun permits should not be allowed. You do not have the maturity to carry a gun permitted or not. It is your way or the highway and if pushed in the right direction your gun would come out in a heated discussion of issues because it is an extension of your manhood. Thank you for reading this and for responding as such and for making a case for gun control for me. NOW I am done with you. So have a good day...

You know, the victim might not have been a gang member, but the shooters might have been. Maybe a case of mistaken identity? That's why they call it gang related. unfortunately, alot of youngsters run around looking like gangsters when they might not be. They have shaved heads and they were clothes that are WAY to big on them.

IT DONT MATTER IF HE WAS A GANG MEMBER OR NOT...HE WAS A REALLY GOOD FRIEND TRYING THE BEST TO BE SUCCESSFULL...HE DIDNT DESERVED THIS DEATH...THAT DAY HE WAS HEADING TO SKOOL...WHEN THIS COWARDS SHOT HIM AND TOOK HIM AWAY...WELL ALL I GOT TO SAY IS THAT US YOUNGSTERS SHOULD STAND UP AND FIGHT TO STOP GANG VIOLENCE...IT HARD LIVING AND TRYING TI SURVIVE IN THE GHETTO...PERO I STAND UP STRAIGHT TO HONOR MY GOOD FRIEND LUIS PEREZ,,,,, FELICITAS AND GONZALO MENDEZ LEARNIND CENTER WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER U OSITO....

JENNIFERDUENAS , was he, or wasnt he in a gang? That is what we are trying to determine.
And skool is spelled "school".

LUIS EDUARDO PEREZ WAS MY NEIGHBORS BOYFRIEND AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH. I REMEMBER SEEING HIM AND HEARING HIM. THE WAY HE DRESSED AND THE WAY HE TALKED WHERE, IN MY OPINION, TWO CONTRIBUTING FACTORS TO HIS UNTIMELY DEMISE. THERE ARE LOADS OF "GANGS" IN BOYLE HEIGHTS AND THAT MEANS MORE WEAPONS. ONE BAD ATTITUDE, HANGING WITH THE WRONG CROWD (GANGSTERS, HIPSTERS, PARTY CREWSTERS, TAGGERS, SKATERS, OR ANY OTHER PATHETIC GROUP LIKE THAT),THE WRONG ATTIRE, SAYING THE "WRONG" THING, ONE BAD LOOK CAN PROMPT A BEATING OR A SHOT. SO PEOPLE, IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT BOYLE HEIGHTS, READ THE INTERNET REVIEWS BUT STAY OUT OF HERE BECAUSE "It happens ALL the time". I WOULD SUGGEST SOMEWHERE SAFE TO BE, LIKE A DESSERTED ISLAND. FRANKLY, THE PROBLEM HERE IS THAT MANY PEOPLE HERE HAVE CHILDREN WITHOUT HAVING BASIC PARENTING SKILLS NOR RESOURCES TO RAISE SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS INDIVIDUALS WITH A REGARD FOR PEACE AND LIFE. LA VERDAD.

HENRYK, thanks for the information. Now it makes more sense on why the deceased was gunned down. He made extremely poor choices and paid the price for it.
