Unincorporated Los Angeles County: Dalton Rahman, 18

Dalton Rahman, an 18-year-old white man, was shot and killed by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies on Thursday, Nov. 5, in the 17000 block of Orkney Street in unincorporated Los Angeles County, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 8:30 p.m., after a car chase in the unincorporated section of Azusa, a city of about 45,000 east of L.A. in the San Gabriel Valley, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect crashed the car and fled to the backyard of a house on Orkney, according to the statement. A police dog went after the suspect.

When deputies got the suspect to the ground, he grabbed one of the deputies' guns and fired several rounds, according to the statement.

No deputies were injured.

The suspect was shot several times by another deputy and was pronounced dead at the scene.

I'm familiar with someone who is friends with the father of the deceased. He is no illegal alien. He was born and raised here in LA. He had some problems to say the least. Blaming everything on Illegal aliens is just PLAIN STUPID! Until you know the facts, shut up!

I know his family and they are very hard working, taxpaying ,citizens.
Not that that is what is important here, the fact is someone lost there son, their their grandson and a brother.

I completely understand that a heated situation as described in this post would cause for high adrenaline rushes and un-called for reactions. But KILLING him??? Yes, I know their lives were at risk when the guy starting shooting at them, but to point the gun at his face and just end his life for doing that? Cops do it because they can. They have full control of the situation. Their arrogance and disgust for the "suspect" no matter WHO IT IS and no matter WHAT THEY DID causes situations like these to end the way they did. Would you rather they tried to talk with him and empathize with how he was feeling while they are ducking hot lead? the answer to all your questions is YES!!! You pick up a gun and shoot and you are going to get shot at. I think kids learn this on the play ground when they are playing cops and robbers. He was rolled the dice and got the outcome that he wanted. If he thought that he could get away with doing that to a cop or cops what makes you think that he would even think twice about doing it to you? I wish I had the ability to put you in that same situation, I don't think you would stand there and yell at him to stop. Your reaction would be the same to stop him from killing you at all cost.

The police did it correctly by ending the threat to the local neighborhood. Obviously the deceased was deranged intent on killing people. Good thing he died before he could accomplish that goal.

First, let me send my deepest condolensces to this young mans family, especially his parents. Second, let me state here that I am the son of a since retired & now decesed police officer from N.Y. & believe ANY cop would do the same as these officers did in response. And lastly, that I am an "aledged robbery victim" of this young man. I am also a recovering alcoholic & drug addict of many, many years & know this as an excuse for his behavior is bulls**t. Sorry, but I firmly believe we reap what we sow...

Tell the parents not to come on this blog. It is a blog NOT a memroium. Their son did a stupid thing and got killed for it. He wasn't some small child throwing a tantrum he was an adult and made adult decisions and lived and died by them. This wasn't some innocent kid that didn't know what the hell it was he was doing. No matter how you or anyone else tries to make this better you will not. This MAN took a gun and pulled the trigger more then once...like some of the other bloggers have said what words of comfort would the parents have for the actions of their son had a bullet actually hit someone and killed someone? Whould they be feeling the same lose of NOT even close. Dalton made a series of poor decisions that passed through San Clemente, Newport Beach (where he was preparing to rob somebody at gunpoint when police arrived), and finally Los Angeles. He told his girlfriend he would rather die than get arrested by the police...your wish is granted.

okay, my point: If I seriously SERIOUSLY had to shoot someone to defend myself or anyone (and they had their gun pointed at me) I wouldn't aim at the face.... or heart. All that cop had to do was point at something other than a vital region. It takes just as long to point at the face as it does to point at the hip, or shoulder, or arm. Where you chose to point is the question. Mr. Rahman (may you rest in peace) was a troubled kid, and he fled the police because he didn't want to go to jail. To 'Not a fan of cops'...If a police officer makes the decision that lethal force is necessary to stop a threat, then he/she needs to stop the threat as quickly as possible. Shooting somebody in the shoulder or hip might not immediately stop the person from doing whatever they were doing. Wounds to non vital organs don't always stop a motivated criminal. If this kid grabbed an officer's gun and was firing off rounds, the second officer would want to immediately stop him from doing that, and would need to instantly incapacitate the suspect. Sounds like a head shot was the right decision. I'm sure if your life or the life of a loved one was threatened, you would want the threat ended immediately, and not want the officer to gamble that a shot to the leg or arm would be sufficient.

I have so much to write. I had this whole response ready for you and then it hit me. I no longer wanted to carry on a converstaion with someone who thinks that in a fight for life either yours or someone eles and trying to avoid getting hit by a bullet that one would still be able to HIT a none leathal part of the body! This man made a decision and paid the price for that decision!! I am glad that YOU will never have to make a decision to stop someone from shooting randomly in my direction by taking the time to aim at a "non" vital organ and/or stopping this maniac as fast as possible before he takes an innocent life. He wasn't just shooting at the cops that day but shooting aimlessly and he could have hit anything or anyone.

The police did the right thing in this incident, and for you to invoke "hollywood" fantasy's, is quite rediculous.

I knew Dalton when he was 8 years old. He helped me decorate my baby's room. A perfect little boy. He made a long lasting impression on me. So smart and kind. I was devasted. How could this happen? How could they take that boy away when his life had only just begun. Police cannot play God. They are suppose to be trained to handle situations not to go killing our kids. The deceased was out to kill people and fortunately, the police stopped him before he could accomplish his evil deeds.

I would have to say that he put himself in this situation but I do not think we have the full story to pass judgement yet. But from what was written this boy was a 120 pound 18 kid that could not be restrained by multiple trained SWAT officers. What is wrong with that picture? Those are the people that are protecting us. I guess that is why these SWAT officers are on PAID LEAVE until further investagtion. Something is really wrong with that picture. Forget about him being dead that is done with....but we should all wonder what really went wrong in all that. This does not add up at all. I really want to hear the updates of the officers that were there. Im sure they are all sticking together anways.So I guess it doesnt matter.

Not sure where you got your info....the SWAT officers are not all on leave that were there. This was not just some 120 pound kid who was minding his own business. I think SWAT did just what they are trained to do! To answer your question what went wrong that night...nothing!! SWAT protected us from that nut that was shooting. As a matter of fact from what I have read on this case not just in this blog SWAT was NOT there!! SO where did you get your info? What makes you think that SWAT was there? You are just as wrong as this man was who picked up a gun and shot it!

My name is Carre... and i knew Dalton! He is missed very much. I was shocked to find out about his death! I am so hurt by some of these comments! I live in Los Angeles, and i grew up with him.
