On Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, The Times launched a new version of the Homicide Report. You have arrived at the old blog.

Readers can no longer post new comments on this site, but we encourage you to join the conversation on our new site. The updated Homicide Report features an interactive map and searchable database of the more than 2,600 homicides in L.A. County since January 2007, when Times' reporter Jill Leovy first started this blog with the goal of covering each one.

Comments prior to Jan. 26 will, at least for now, remain archived here, with links provided in the new database.

If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail homicidereport@latimes.com, and we will do our best to respond.

Los Angeles Police Det. Robert Lait said Lee, an employee of a liquor store on the block, got into an argument with a man inside the store. The two went outside, where Lee was "repeatedly pummeled … with fists and elbow causing severe blunt head trauma," according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ajani Salim Fisher, a 33-year-old black man, has been arrested and charged with Lee's murder. Lait said that the motive did not appear to be robbery and that Lee apparently did nothing to provoke the attack.

Lait declined to give any specific information about the argument between the two but said they had no prior relationship. The attack happened about 1:45 p.m. and Lee was pronounced dead at 8:50 p.m., according to coroner's records.

maybe if more of them are killed they'll treat us with more respect

Me, care to elaborate? Are you referring to the accused who should be removed from society? Or the shopkeeper who is providing jobs and tax money to the city?

"Them"?! You racist. Maybe if *you* stopped killing, beating, raping, beefing, lying and stealing everything that wasn't nailed down... and opened your own store--or did *anything* other than talking smack and filling prison cells--then people would stop being understandably suspicious. How you like that?

that'a a ridiculous comment. we've learned in the past that sometimes cultures clash but in the end we have the right to protest & boycott any business in our community. Yes, they can be disrecpectful...but so can we & you know it!!

peace

I HAD A LITTLE DEBBIES DISTRUBITION (DELIVERING SNACKS) & THIS WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE STORES TO DELIVER TO.....THEY SOLD ALOT....BUT I KNEW THIS GUY HE WAS ALWAYS FRIENDLY BUT WHEN YOU LIVE IN A SOCIETY FULL OF CUTT THROATS & ANIMALS IT DOESNT PAY TO BE FRIENDLY.....

As a person that frequents this store and lives in the neighborhood, it doesn't matter how you look at it taking someones life, that is not your own to take is wrong. I don't care how much you steal, lie, cheat, to brutally "beat" someone because you don't like what they say to you, or how they look at you is wrong, PERIOD!!! If you feel as though a person is not treating you with dignity you do not have to patronize their business!

@ Jaunenito Well said I live down the street from where this happen it's a working class poor neighbor hood. This store is across the street from crack motel central.
I'm truly sorry for his familys loss no one deserves to be kill in such a manner.
How we as american can control what goes on half way around the world when we cant control what comes in to america

What an imbecile that "Me" poster is. More of them? We? What "respect" do YOU deserve when "them" people are getting killed just trying to make a living. You can make excuses all you want about being at a disadvantage in society as a result of your environment...but most of "them" people came here with nothing but the clothes on their backs...and just so happened to make something of themselves. Respect? Just take a look at Tookie Williams, Willie Horton, and more recently Maurice Clemmons...why do these scums deserve any kind of respect. You, sir, are pathetic.
