Los Angeles Police Det. DeWayne Fields said a neighbor heard a gunshot, looked outside and saw Morales running. He ran about the length of two houses and collapsed. Morales was shot about 8:40 p.m. and pronounced dead at 8:48 p.m., according to coroner's records.

Fields said a white car was seen speeding away, but detectives are unsure if the car had anything to do with the shooting. Fields said detectives have no witnesses and no suspects in the killing.

Morales had no gang ties, and detectives do not believe this was a gang killing.
