Unincorporated Los Angeles County: Francisco Reyes, 18

Francisco Reyes, an 18-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the 1600 block of East 83rd Street in unincorporated Los Angeles County, authorities said.

Reyes was dropping off his child at the mother’s home when he was approached by a black male, according to authorities. Without saying anything, the gunman shot at both Reyes and the child’s mother, wounding her and killing Reyes, according to Det. Gene Okada of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau.

The female victim was taken to the hospital and later released. Her name is being withheld pending the investigation.

Okada said the motive behind the assault remains unclear. Reyes had no ties to any gangs and had never been arrested, Okada said.
