Readers can no longer post new comments on this site, but we encourage you to join the conversation on our new site. The updated Homicide Report features an interactive map and searchable database of the more than 2,600 homicides in L.A. County since January 2007, when Times' reporter Jill Leovy first started this blog with the goal of covering each one.
Comments prior to Jan. 26 will, at least for now, remain archived here, with links provided in the new database.

Cory Smith, a 29-year-old black man, died Thursday, Oct. 1, after he was shot at Arbor Vitae Street and 10th Avenue in Inglewood, authorities said.
Smith was standing on the sidewalk near a parked car when several people approached him and one or more people shot him several times, police said.
Smith was shot just before midnight Sept. 30 and was pronounced dead at the scene seven minutes after midnight, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the L.A. County coroner's office.
Anyone with information about this killing is asked to call the Inglewood Police tip line at (888) 41-CRIME or Inglewood homicide detectives at (310) 412-5246.

Cory, I saw you 2 and a half weeks ago. You put a smile on my face and I put one on yours. We had so many laughs hanging out just chilling back in the day. You will always live in my heart Snuggs. All yal is some idiots out there on each other'S headS bored, desperate for ghetto fame, and FIGHTIN' broke! I hear yal mad at EACH OTHER over money and women! Whats the problem? 90% of inglewood kids grow up livin in big houses and gated communities! it's all out there boys! Most Family gang members dont even like each other and definitely there is no trust! That hood was the tops in the 70's-90's when respect was due. What happen to those cats? jail for ballin? But now, from what is on the grapevine, it aint nothin left in that hood but ah bunch of poor, lazy, spoiled young men and women from 14 to 30 who have found a way to waist time, and not accept the fact that they began ruining their lives long ago!
