Homicides: September 28 - October 5 [Updated]

The year-to-date number of homicides in Los Angeles County is about 582. This number does not include a few cases in which the cause of death has been deferred.

The Los Angeles County coroner's office has confirmed the following deaths as homicides:

Alton Mixon, a 51-year-old black man, on Sept. 28. Mixon was stabbed in the 14100 block of South Albertson Avenue in unincorporated Los Angeles.

Armando Vidana, a 25-year-old Latino, on Sept. 29. Vidana was shot at Illinois Street and Laurel Avenue in Pomona.

Francisco Reyes, a 18-year-old white man, on Sept. 29.  Reyes was shot in the 1600 block of East 83rd Street in unincorporated Los Angeles. [Updated Oct. 7: Reyes was described as white by the coroner's office and as Latino by sheriff's officials who are investigating his homicide.]

Edward Carr, a 17-year-old black youth, on Sept. 30. Carr was shot in the 14600 block of South Atlantic Avenue in Compton.

Cory Smith, a 29-year-old black man, on Oct. 1. Smith was shot at Arbor Vitae Street and 10th Avenue in Inglewood.

Efrain Lara Gutierrez, 31-year-old Latino, on Oct. 2. Lara Gutierrez was shot in the 18200 block of Renwick Road in unincorporated Los Angeles County.

Emmanuel Diaz, a 22-year-old Latino, on Oct. 3.  No other information was provided by the coroner [Updated Oct. 7: Diaz's cause of death has been deferred as coroner's investigators perform additional tests. Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said he was hit by a vehicle.]

Saul Ayala, a 35-year-old Latino, on Oct. 3. Ayala was shot in the 4500 block of Clinton Street in East Hollywood.

Louis Pickett Jr., a 24-year-old black man, on Oct. 4. Picket was shot at 103rd Street and Lou Dillon Avenue in Watts.

Jonathan Hernandez, a 24-year-old Latino, on Oct. 4. Hernandez died of blunt-force trauma in the 6700 block in Hayvenhurst Avenue in Lake Balboa.

That's a whole lotta death...

I really think that if you are dum enough to be out and about when gangs look for gangs you are going to become a victim stuff happens its in our nature its survival of the fittest in if you are not fit then you loose its the g code

Frank G, care to elaborate about this "code". Ive never heard of it.

RIP Emmanuel. Your family & friends miss you so much. I pray the court gives you justice by convicting the girl who ran you over!
