Anthony Torres, a 33-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Oct. 11, in the 5900 block of East Northside Drive in East Los Angeles, authorities said.

Someone pulled out a gun and shot Torres in the neck and chest, according to coroner’s records. Torres was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:25 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

His two companions were also shot and seriously injured in the attack, but they are expected to survive, Guzman said.

Police do not know what prompted the fight, but Guzman said the motive in the attack could be gang related.

Guzman said Torres and the other two victims were known members of the Varrio Neuvo Estrada street gang. He said he did not know if the assailants, who fled the scene, were gang members.

Police are still working to identify them, Guzman said. Anyone with information about this killing is asked to call Sheriff’s homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500.
