South Gate: Ernesto Tovar, 21

Ernesto Tovar, a 21-year-old Latino, died on Saturday, Sept. 19, after he was beaten at Long Beach Boulevard and Willow Place in South Gate, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s officials.Tovar was found lying in the street on Sept. 14 with blunt-force injuries, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner’s office. Tovar was taken to a hospital, where he told doctors he was beaten with a baseball bat, Winter said.

Tovar died in the hospital four days later at 6:30 p.m. No suspect information was available.
