Homicides: August 17 - August 24

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office has confirmed the following deaths as homicides. The Times will report more details this week:

Jacob Benavidez, a 15-year-old Latino, on Aug. 18. Benavidez was shot in the 1000 block of East 16th Street in Long Beach.

Rene Torres, a 2-year-old Latino, on Aug. 18. Rene died in the 500 block of North Summit Avenue in Pasadena.

Thaddeus Risher, a 49-year-old black man, on Aug. 18. Risher was shot in the 100 block of East 82nd Place in Florence.

Christobal Lira, a 32-year-old Latino, on Aug.18. Lira was beaten and shot in the 9700 block of Sunland Boulevard in Shadow Hills.

Kevin Sipert, a 17-year-old black teenager, on Aug. 20 Sipert was shot at Essey Avenue and Laurel Street in Compton.

Oscar Lopez-Hernandez, a 40-year-old Latino, on Aug. 20. Lopez-Hernandez was shot at Ocean View Avenue and South Coronado Street in Westlake.

Brandon Thompson, a 20-year-old black man, on Aug. 21. Thompson was stabbed in the 12400 block of Eucalyptus Avenue in Hawthorne.

Otis Williams, a 32-year-old black man, on Aug. 21, Williams was shot in the 2600 block of West 109th Street in Inglewood.

Ching Tseng, a 35-year-old Asian man, on Aug. 22. Tseng was shot in the 3200 block of West 6th Street in Koreatown.

Tomas Guerrero, a 22-year-old Latino, on Aug. 22. The location of Guerrero’s shooting is unavailable at this time. [Updated September 1: Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner’s office, said Guerrero was shot in the 700 block of East 135th Street in unincorporated Los Angeles.]

Larick Matheson, a 58-year-old black man, on Aug. 22. Matheson was shot in the 2900 block of South Rimpau Boulevard in West Adams.

Leonard Samuels, a 22-year-old black man, on Aug. 22. Samuels was shot in the 1700 block of West Century Boulevard in Gramercy Park.

Brandon Perry, a 17-year-old black teenager, on Aug. 23. Perry was shot in the 6400 block of South 7th Avenue in Hyde Park.

Angel Popoca, a 21-year-old Latino, on Aug. 23. Popoca was shot in the 21300 block of South Archibald Avenue in Carson.

Hilario Seferino Perez, a 43-year-old Latino, on Aug. 23. Seferino Perez was shot in the 3400 block of Drew Street in Glassell Park.

Efrain Olmos, a 39-year-old Latino, on Aug. 24. Olmos was shot in the 9500 block of Bandera Street in Watts.

Tammy Howland, a 34-year-old white woman, on Aug. 24. Howland was shot in the 41000 block of 176th Street East in Lake Los Angeles.
