Compton: Jamel Kelly, 25
Jamel Kelly, a 25-year-old black man, was shot several times and died July 3 in the 2700 block of North Wilmington Avenue in Compton, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.
Kelly was attempting to rob a Compton barbershop with two other people when two armed barbers shot at him, said Lt. Brian Elias, a spokesman for the coroner's office.
The two other men involved in the attempted robbery fled the scene, but one of them appeared to be injured because police found a trail of blood leading away from the shop, said Deputy Guillermina Saldana.
Coroner's investigators said the shooting happened about 1 p.m., and Kelly was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:13 p.m.

What a way to end a precious gift of life!!!! If that barbershop was to stay open 24hrs,365days it would not be enough money to loose your life over.

no its not considered self defense or justifiable homicide. its listed as homicide because it is a killing of a human being by another human being. homicide is not murder. but this case does apply the provacative rule where if u and ur buddies committ a felony and one of you is killed by a police officer or say a store clerk in this case u and the other surviving jack ass gets charged for the murder. at least one of these assholes is off the street.

while sorry for the family's loss because this behavior didn't have to be the values the parents held, but the boy got what he deserved for trying to rob one of his own. no rest for the wicked and choosing money over life is indeed wicked.

Maybe our culture needs to evoolve some alternative showdown between people who want to kill each other in which they go through combat and emerge victorious or defeated but still quite alive. These countless tragedies behind the drug trade take a huge toll on society. One day we may permit a dictator to emerge in this country because we have not been successful in dealing with these kinds of senseless deaths. And that would bring still more brutality as well as the loss of our freedoms. Isn't someone in Hollywood imaginative enough to do it, not just make a movie about it?

I sympathize with the family, but as they say, you live by the sword, you die by the sword. Don't let this recession make you lose you life. The robbers should have known that barbers in Compton have to stay strapped.
