Compton: Andrew Peppers, 16

May 14, 2009 | 10:40 pm

Andrew Peppers, a 16-year-old black youth, was shot in the head and killed Tuesday, May 5, in the 1400 block of South Temple Avenue in Compton, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Andrew was sitting on a wall with four friends when someone walked by and opened fire at the group, said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner’s office. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident and found Andrew and Draysean Earl, a 13-year-old black youth, lying in the grass. Both youths had been shot.

Andrew died at the scene. Draysean was taken to a hospital where he died early the next morning.

Witnesses described the shooter as a black man who ran north after firing at the group, according to Los Angeles County sheriff's officials. Sheriff’s homicide detective believe the shooting may be gang-related.
Anyone with information is asked to call 323-890-5500.

Read about Draysean's funeral: 'It was just a senseless crime.'

just because a black person shot these guys you think he was in a black gang ,i mean the shooter.do you people know there is a race war in compton and, they have black people from hispanic gangs killing othe black people.to make you think it's black on black crime.but really it's not, they use the black people from there mexicans gangs to shot at other blacks,so the attention can get off the mexicans gangs in compton .trust me i know what i am talking about.

These were kids that were slain in the streets like animals. I pray that we as a race will wake up and stop killing our own. It is a vicious cycle with no winner. These young boys were not gang related. Whoever did this crime will have to answer to GOD.

Darnell there is a race war going on in Compton, but hispanics are not using blacks in the race war. There war is one race against the other. I have lived here all my life. This sounds like a black man was initiated into a gang when these shootings took place. Im told In order to get initiated you have to kill someone innocent. You notice they say the shooter ran to a car waiting for him. That person witnessing the act of the initiation I beleive. I pray that God in heaven will not grant peace to the shooter or his family until the shooter turns himself in. I pray his heart be heavy, his mind be filled with confusion and everything that he touches and his family touches falls apart until he turns himself in. I pray this in Jesus Name, Amen

darnell are you serious come on? thats like using the old excuse of blaming everything wrong with our communities on " the white man." We have to take responsibility not just for our actions but our communities. If we keep making up excuses for murder then we might as well be accomplices in the crime. The whole mexicans going after any black or vise versa is also not true and you know that. The problem are gangs and people who glorify them and turn a blind eye on their crimes. Color or race should not be a factor, their criminal actions speak for the sub-human cowards they are. RIP Andrew your life was taken from you

EVEN IF THE MEDIA IS SAYING THERE IS A RACE WAR..TO BE HONEST..IF U R FROM A HOOD..ESPECIALLY MEXICAN...THEY HAVE RULES AND CODES..I KNOW U THINK ITS NOT TRUE..BUT THERE IS ALOT OF POLITICS OUT IN THE STREETS..AND SOMETIMES WHAT U SEE ..IS NOT EXACTLY WHAT U THINK IT IS..ITS NOT TRUE FOR ALL HOODS..BUT THE ONES RESPECTED IN PRISON AND HAVE TO ANSWER......WELL NUFF SAID...TO INFO!!!
