Long Beach: Man, 27, shot after chasing thieves [UPDATED]
Garrett Norris, a 27-year-old white man, died after he was shot several times on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Spaulding Avenue and Temple Avenue in Long Beach, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.
Norris, of Long Beach, was playing basketball when he realized two men were stealing some of his belongings, officials said. Norris chased the men to an alley, where they shot him in the torso.
Anyone with information is asked to call Long Beach Police Department Dets. Mark McGuire or Hugo Cortes at (562) 570-7244.
UPDATE: A 15-year-old Long Beach boy was charged with murder and robbery Wednesday, April 22, for allegedly shooting Norris to death after stealing his iPod.
The Los Angeles County district attorney's office is seeking to try the teenager, who was not identified because of his age, as an adult. He was arrested over the weekend. Authorities said a second suspect was arrested Wednesday but has not been charged. They described the shooting as gang-related.
