Victoria Fox, a 53-year-old white woman, was shot by police officers at 11:40 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2009, at her home on the 8400 block of La Tuna Canyon Road in Sun Valley, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Fox had been in a standoff with police since 7:30 the night before, threatening to shoot herself and firing shots inside the home, according to Los Angeles police.
Special weapons and tactics officers and crisis negation teams had been called to the scene, and they tried to communicate with Fox, who appeared worried about personal problems, police said.
In the morning Fox emerged from her home with a gun and walked to one of the SWAT vehicles. When she raised her gun, police fired a less-than-lethal round at her and missed. She pointed her gun at the officers and they shot her, according to the statement.
Fox was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
