South Los Angeles: Man, 38, is fatally shot outside house

Damon Lamont Jones was fatally shot as he stood with another man in front of a residence in the 600 block of West 68th Street in South Los Angeles about 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 20.

The 38-year-old Los Angeles resident was approached by two men who walked up and yelled out a gang reference before opening fire, Los Angeles police detectives said. Jones and another man tried to flee into a nearby residence but each were hit with multiple gunshots.

Jones died at a local hospital. The other victim was treated and expected to survive.

Police believe the motive for the shooting is gang-related, although there was no specific description available. Anyone with information is asked to call LAPD South Bureau detectives at (213) 485-1383 or call toll free at 877-LAWFULL.

I read this story last week and said a prayer for the Family. And 2 days ago my Neighbor and friend said (M) had her baby she had her early her husband was killed last week. Man this blew my mind. I rushed to work and read the story again and the comment that his wife was expecting let me know this is my Friends husband.. I went thru this 20 yrs ago my Husband was killed infront of me and my 4yr old son. It still seems like yesterday. All I can say is it will never go away you have to Thank God he is where no one can hurt him. He is more Blessed than us where he is. His wife is the sweetest person I know. The baby is Blessed to be in a Very Close Loving Family.

Damon was an all around good guy, regardless of what he may have done in his past he was a great guy and I know because I've known him the majority of my 30 years of life and know him even better because he married my aunt, who is like my sister and most of all my friend. It's just a shame how our people are killing one another, it's really sad and to have taken the life of a innocent, Son, Father and grandfather really saddens me. Damon was on the perfect track living the american dream, per say and expecting a baby girl which just arrived 2 days ago and it saddens me even more because here's another innocent child that has to grow up not even knowing what kind of man her father was...only thing we can do at this point is share these stories, pictures and the history we had with Damon with her and his grandchildren as well. It's just unfair and of course justice should be served and it will be but to whom ever is responsible and/or had anything to do with the passing of this man, you'll have to take that up with GOD, as we all know whom are believers of GOD, judgement day is coming and me being a child of GOD, I can only pray for their souls because vengeance isn't mines but know that your day will come, you can't run and can't hide because everywhere you go there you are and my heavenly father is watching you and again I just pray for whom evers responsible that the lord has mercy on your soul. Be blessed!

Damon was a great person. I'm sad to say that the last time that I saw him was 15 years ago at a funeral. May he rest in peace. My condolences to his wife, his entire family and countless friends.

This is an incredibly sad story. Mr. Jones' and his wife are expecting their first child the latter half of November. May his killer rot in hell.
