On Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, The Times launched a new version of the Homicide Report. You have arrived at the old blog.

Readers can no longer post new comments on this site, but we encourage you to join the conversation on our new site. The updated Homicide Report features an interactive map and searchable database of the more than 2,600 homicides in L.A. County since January 2007, when Times' reporter Jill Leovy first started this blog with the goal of covering each one.

Comments prior to Jan. 26 will, at least for now, remain archived here, with links provided in the new database.

If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail homicidereport@latimes.com, and we will do our best to respond.

Lincoln Heights: Pedestrian is killed

September 4, 2008 | 11:14 am

Demetrio Sosa, 61, a Latino man, was killed Wednesday, Sept. 3, when a car that was being pursued by police hit him. At 2:26 p.m., officers with the LAPD's Northeast Division spotted a driver who appeared to be under the influence at Figueroa Street and 52nd Avenue in Highland Park and began following him without lights or sirens, said Officer Jason Lee, an LAPD spokesman. Officers followed the car onto the Pasadena and Golden State freeways and to the Lincoln Heights area, where the pursuit  ended at Griffith Avenue and North Broadway. The driver, Robert Palacios, 41, hit a minivan before striking Sosa, who was walking down the street. The minivan's occupants sustained minor injuries, Lee said. Palacios, a Latino man, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Crime has been a big issue in the North East area, these needs to stop. The city council needs to step up and help the community of Lincoln Heights. I've lived in Lincoln Heights all my life and now that I'm older I care for my community. I see very little money going into LHTS, but I do see graffiti and crime increasing. Our councilman needs to do something ASAP to clean and make Lincoln Heights a great place to live again

I think lincoln heights needs lots of help today. All that people see here is crime, graffitti, young kids on the streets slangging. I lived here my whole live and i still a teenager but i don't like to see the place where i grew up in a disaster.

Javier,

Don't you read the newspaper? The Mayor and police Chief say Los Angeles is safer now than anytime since 1967, L.A. is a very safe place according to your Mayor and City Councilman. It must be you imigination about crime and graffiti.

this is the third pedestrian hit an dkilled in the last 3 wks. drivers are not paying attention to those on bikes or walking and we must begin to do so. to the familt i am sadden to hear of your lost asnd may God strengthen you all.

May be if the continued crime, graffitie, killings, dirty streets, 5th rate markets and shops, if this were happening in San Marino oh I bet the counsel man would JUMP......

Ed Reyes needs to be involved with Lincoln Heights and clean up our streets-Revitalization. Reyes is too busy running all of LA but not his own District. He approves condos in LA but doesn't bring new projects to LA or make improvements.
I attend LHNC meetings and they have so much compassion for our neighborhood of LH-they too can't get Ed Reyes to show up and hear our needs or call back for his support; it is obscured -shame on the councilman.
