Jose Alfredo Farias, 24

August 8, 2008 | 12:00 pm

Jose Alfredo Farias, 24, and his brother Victor Manuel Farias, 25, and Vidal Hernandez Rebolledo, 23, all  Latinos, were shot and killed about 11:35 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at Imperial Highway and Western Avenue in the Athens-Westmont area.

Jose Farias was pronounced dead at the scene. Victor Farias and Rebolledo were taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where Victor Farias was pronounced dead. Rebolledo died the next day.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said all three men were at a cruising event when an argument broke out between one of the three men and a Latino man, who pulled out a gun and began shooting. The two brothers and Rebolledo were hit by gunfire.

Witnesses told deputies that they saw the gunman fleeing in a dark-colored vehicle. Authorities did not have a description of the vehicle or shooter, except that he was a Latino man.

A fourth man also was struck by gunfire. He recovered at an area hospital from his gunshot wound.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call detectives at the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Callers can remain anonymous.

Gun shot detecting systems should be in place in LA county. Enough is enough. i wuz goin to go ova there in lowrider too. but I didnt no enough people there to feel safe so I made it to wilmington and el segundo and headed back to Long Beach.......thats soooo crazy......I was supposed to go to churches chicken and hang out.....but my first thought was to NOT GO.....

Vidal My friend From when we where young men, more then twenty years ago, He was a good man, a good friend, a good brother, a good son. I have not seen Vidal in like 1 year or so, i remember the Gomper's Jr.high, & Locke Days. It was a wrong place at the wrong time for My friend vidal. Ruben & David Keep your head Up You have your Big Brother looking out for you two, from up there. God bless Him & his Family

TO FARIAS FAMILY SORRY FOR LOSS AND MAY GOD BE WITH YOU IN THESE HARD TIMES.....FROM THE CERVANTES FAMILY ....LOS TABANOS MICHOACAN

I grew up on Imperial and Western and was told that some Latino guys were upset at Latinos for associating with blacks that night. I guess that's a big no no and that started an argument. They said that two guys walked off and came back and started shooting. I guess South Side Latinos are not supposed to interact with blacks so they retaliated on these guys and it's stupid that people take race this far. I'll pray for the families of the men killed and the one that was shot, the violence and racial bull must cease!!!

I just found out yesterday afternoon that Vidal Hernandez was one of the victims.
We were neighbors in the same apartment complex in the early 90’s, my heart goes
out to his family and the other brothers family rest in peace……..

God Bless

I HOPE THE POLICE CATCH THE MURDERER WHO SHOT AND MURDERED 3 PEOPLE.WE NEED TO BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY FOR THESE TO MANY CRIMINALS THAT OUR IN OUR COMMUNITIES. OH, THERES NO SUCH THING AS WRONG PLACE WRONG TIME. THOSE 3 PEOPLE HAD A RIGHT TO BE AND ENJOY WHERE THEY ARE.IT WAS THE EVIL PERSON WHO TOOK THIER RIGHT TO BE WHERE THEY WERE. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Thats right.......I always say that.......There is no such thing as the wrong place at the wrong time..........this is America

Sergio, remember what you just said come November when its election day.

Ask yourself if YOUR candidate supports the police, supports a good business environment and supports a safe and well run education system.

What hurts the most about this loss is that the person that took these young mens life is still out there, walking the the same streets that many of our love ones walk. They are able to live still. There mothers and fathers can still kiss and hug them .And we,the family of the the ones that were taken from us,we cant.I am vidal's cousin and all i can think of was the last time i seen him.His smile and laugh.I will never get the pleasure of hearing his voice or seeing him smile again. All the people that were out there that night and no one knows anything???ARE YOU JOKEING ME?
THESE MEN WERE LOVED!!!! I am forever blessed to have had the honor of having vidal in my life as my family, and not for one moment will he ever be forgotten...Truly,deeply,forever missed....

WE HAVE LOST A GREAT PERSON AND A WONDERFUL FRIEND. VICTOR WAS A LOVING PERSON HE WAS MY NEIGHBOR AND FRIEND. OUR HEARTS GO OUT TO HIS MOTHER AND CHILDREN.
