Overland Sylvester Campbell Jr., 20, a young black man, was shot numerous times in the 2000 block of West Florence Avenue in South Los Angeles about 8:50 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5.
Los Angeles Police Department officials said Campbell was walking on the sidewalk when an unknown number of suspects inside a four-door compact vehicle pulled up next to him. A suspect or suspects in the vehicle then fired several shots at Campbell, police said. Campbell collapsed on the sidewalk. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
