Gerardo Arvallo, 32, a Latino man, was shot and killed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s SWAT team about 11:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in the 3100 block of Los Flores Boulevard in Lynwood.

Deputies from the Century Station responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon about 9 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies found Laura Sibiran, 29, a Latina, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Authorities said Arvallo had shot her, then barricaded himself inside her home with their 2-year-old daughter.

Sheriff’s SWAT officers were called in. After a few hours, SWAT officers moved in to rescue the child, and shots were fired. Arvallo was fatally shot by a SWAT officer.

Authorities said Sibiran was taken to a local hospital, where she recovered from her gunshot wound.
