Gerardo Arvallo, 32

Gerardo Arvallo, 32, a Latino man, was shot and killed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's  SWAT team about 11:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in the 3100 block of Los Flores Boulevard in Lynwood.

Deputies from the Century Station responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon about 9 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies found Laura Sibiran, 29, a Latina, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Authorities said Arvallo had shot her, then barricaded himself inside her home with their 2-year-old daughter.

Sheriff's SWAT officers were called in. After a few hours, SWAT officers moved in to rescue the child, and shots were fired. Arvallo was fatally shot by a SWAT officer.

Authorities said Sibiran was taken to a local hospital, where she recovered from her gunshot wound.

They do lie, whether the victim was at fault or not they should report the facts if they are going to report anything at all to the media. Just like the Sunday night shooting with a suspected DUI driver. They shot and hit the suspect at least 10 times and two shots were to the head... the media was told that the suspect suffered minor injuries. That doesnt sound minor to me. He died hours later in the hospital, obviously not due to minor injuries. This isnt a blaming game but more of a stick to the facts type of comment.

I understand that the police is not going to put a child's life in danger. But, his daughter was already out of the room when they shot to kill him. Of course they are not going to tell that to the media. Many witnesses have told us that the police already had his daughter, she was in no harms way at all. The police still went ahead and lied to us by telling us that the reason they shot at my brother was because he shot at them first, that they had a shoot out with him, and it was after that shoot out that thery were able to get my nice.... I am sorry, but that's just all lies. Like I said, witnesses are willing to testify that my brother had alrady released his daughter. The apartment has no sign that there was gun battle and do you really think that the police will have a shoot out knowing that they will be jeopordizing a child's life? I don't think so. Why doesn't the police mention all the lies told by them. Once again, we are going to prove that they murdered my brother.

I can understand the family being upset but, he brought this down on himself. He shot the child's mother in the stomach and by the grace of god she survives. He then barricaded himself in the home with his 2 year old daughter. The police don't have to wait until the harms the child before they do something. How many times in the news have you heard parents murdering their children lately after disputes.

Typical LAT, this is a Latino on Latina shooting, a Domestic dispute, hostage situation, and somehow the LAT makes it seem like the story is about Deputies shooting someone.
