Matthew Howard, 18

Matthew Howard, 18, a young Samoan, was fatally shot about 9:50 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, in the 5900 block of California Avenue in Long Beach.

Officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to a radio call of shots fired. Upon arrival, they found Howard and a 15-year-old wounded from gunfire. Both were taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where Howard was pronounced dead. The 15-year-old is still recovering, authorities said. 

Police did not have a description of a suspect or suspects.

I love you and miss you so much brother. wow...I can't tell you what Cuvier emotions the family has still, you definitely left a mark brother, a big deep one. Whoever did this is going to pay.

The people that did this will never understand what they really done until there are consequences. Even if they aren't found now. They will get what they deserve. The whole family has suffered so much from this whole thing. No one has the right to take anyones life. No one on this land should be playing the role as god and determine someones fate. God bless the family of Matthew Howard.

How sad to see one of our islanders go this way, May your rest in HEAVEN. Dont know him personally but may the good lord be with his family in this time of need. May the lord comforts you hearts and may the LAPD do there job and finde the shooter and take him in for life. GOD BLESS YOU ALL. FA SOIFUA.

This is a typical Long Beach Summer......death and distruction.............too many guss out here
