Adrian Garcia-Diaz, 16

Adrian Garcia-Diaz, 16, a Latino youth, was shot near Olympic and Plymouth boulevards in Mid-City about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15.

Police said students from Los Angeles High School and neighborhood youths went to nearby Windsor Park to watch a planned fight between several tagging crews.

Witnesses told police that some spectators were filming the fight. During the fight a 16-year-old Latino tagger pulled out a handgun and fired one shot into the crowd, hitting Garcia-Diaz, authorities said. Garcia-Diaz was taken by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Several witnesses helped detectives find and arrest the suspect.

He was booked on suspicion of murder. Police did not release his name because of his age. Homicide detectives from LAPD's Wilshire Division are seeking the public’s help in obtaining any video of the fight and shooting. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Wilshire Homicide Det. John Shafia at (213) 473-0446.

You're right, Fed Up, it used to be worse. What kind of rose-colored world are you living in?

We could all learn something from those kids, they had the GUTS to turn in the shooter. Good job

u foos dont even know wat happen the guy tat got shot was not even gang relateated he was ust watching da fight he safe some one else life

It is not the politicians who raise children. Parents do. The parents of those youths involved should be held as accountable as the shooter.

The problem lies with the lack of accountability between parents. I don't blame the kids for watching, cause we all would have done that when we were young..Its the kid with the gun..Where are his parents? I wish that the police could be allowed to investigate the parents in a case like this and if they determined that the child with the gun was not "parented" properly, the parents could see some jail time. I think until we start holding parent accountable for there parenting, this will never stop..

First, it takes a village to raise a child. Many children now, no longer have parents but a parent. Second, the schools take up the slack, but how can they when HR loses their checks and doesn't pay them for 2 months? That is something that our leaders can solve. Third, we are all connected and by being connected, though this boy may have been a challenge and "bad" he is nevertheless a 16 yo boy who lost his life because there are too many opportunities for such an event in LA and not enough intervening people, organizations, and events to help cull this sort of tragedy. Its not another day in LA my favoured city in the whole world. My thoughts go out to the family - may he rest in peace and may you be in peace as well.

these days normally a gun play is brought to a fist fight. this young mans life was taken for not going the other way he would rather to witness this apparent fight. knowly these days the innocent is always the one who ets it. we all know the dangers of the streets these days so why set yourself up yoourself up for failure. i feel the pain of this family because all deaths are tragic and hurtful. may God heal your hearts and bless you each

Thank you for your bon voyage. No need to "slam" the door, but do be sure to lock it after I leave. Don't want you following me and ruining my new place like you did to LA.

Come on! What is this, a nanny state? You really expect "our leaders" to fix this problem. What happened to personal responsibility? Where are these kids parents? I would think by now people would have figured out that government isn't going to solve our problems. The only thing L.A. city government does efficiently is waste money.

Have a nice trip fed up...

Fed Up

You are correct in wanting our "leaders" to do something, but money needs to be made for "leaders" and their friends and parties. They are out of town on business. Hurry up and join them.

Door Slam

Have you had enough of this lawlessness and chaos? Are you, like me, wondering when our so-called city leaders are going to put these barbarians either in jail or deport them out of the country? It wasn't like this in the past! Like so many native Angelenos before me, I'm moving out and taking my tax dollars with me!!
