Bryan Moore, 26

June 25, 2008 |  4:00 pm

Bryan Moore, 26, a black man, was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies in the 1000 block of East 150th Street in Compton on Thursday, June 26.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department gave the following account in a statement:

Deputies from the Compton Station were attempting to speak with Moore. As deputies approached, Moore turned around and ran. He then jumped over a chain-link fence while holding onto his waistband. Deputies instructed Moore to show his hands. Moore then looked at one of the deputies and was about to turn in his direction. Fearing for his safety, the deputy fired his gun. Moore was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A vigil for Moore will be held at Roy Campanella Park, at 14812 S. Stanford Ave. in Compton at 6:30 p.m. today, June 29.

Another man killed by the police with no weapon. Didn't this happen in Inglewood just two months ago??? Each one of these pushes Los Angeles closer and closer to implosion.

I noticed they did not mention if they found a gun on this man?? he couldve been holding his waistband .....maybe because he didnt want his pants to drop while jumping the fence..most guys do sag their pants. I am tired of these cops shooting at people because they have bad judgement. Since they know they can get away with it and they gave him that right...im sure most of these cops shoot carelessly and more times than necessary. These officers should have bulletproof gear at all times anyway!

This story has changed 3 times since it first took place. What are the sheriffs trying to hid, lie and deny? NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE!!!

I wish people would stop running from the cops, it only leads to more problems. If you run, you just look guilty and make them "justifiably" nervious, and there is nothing worst than guns and fear. STOP RUNNING.

No justice no peace is exactly the kind of attitude that is getting people killed. The police have the guns, there needs to be peace regardless of justice. Someone needs to stand-up above adversity and in my opinion that should be criminals and people getting shot at. Seems pretty simple to me. If you don't wanna get shot, obey the police whether they are in the right or not. They have the power and we don't. Law abiding people rarely get shot by police and we all know that.

I went to school with the vicim's girlfriend, Chanta Deeminter, and it's always sad to here about someone being wrongfully killed by police authority. But it is even more heart breaking when it is so close to home. My prayers goes out to Chanta and the victim's friends and family in their time of mourning.
