Steven Scott Farrell, 20, a white man, died from a gunshot wound at County-USC Medical Center at 9:18 p.m. Monday, June 9, the L.A. County coroner’s office reported.

Farrell was shot near Perlita and Veselich avenues in Atwater Village about 7:45 p.m. Saturday, June 7. According to Det. Jose Carillo of the LAPD’s Northeast Division, Farrell was a documented gang member and was driving in rival gang territory with a friend. Carillo said rival gang members chased after Farrell, and when they caught up to his car they began shooting. Carillo said Farrell was struck in the head and crashed into a parked car.

Farrell was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead that Saturday. However, doctors were able to revive him, Carillo said. As a result, Farrell was incorrectly listed as one of several homicides that occurred in areas under LAPD’s jurisdiction for the weekend of June 6-8. Farrell would have been the 11th homicide within the jurisdiction that weekend. Farrell remained in the hospital until Monday, when he was pronounced dead.

Update: An earlier version of this post left several readers confused about whether or not Farrell had died. Farrell was pronounced dead Monday, two days after he was shot.
