Carlos Rivera, 17, a Latino youth, was fatally shot by officers from LAPD’s Newton Division in the 100 block of East 45th Street near Exposition Park about 7:20 p.m. Saturday, May 17.

According to LAPD spokeswoman Norma Eisenman, officers responded to a radio call of a man with a gun. Upon arrival, the officers saw a group of men. Eisenman said Rivera pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officers. Fearing their lives were in danger, the officers fired several shots at Rivera. Authorities said no one else was injured from the shooting.

Update: L.A. County Department of Coroner has identified the man as Carlos Rivera, a 17-year-old Latino youth.
