May 12, 2008 |  9:00 am

Robert_samuel_hoover_23_2Robert Samuel Hoover, a 23-year-old black man, was shot and killed in the 900 block of West 62nd Place in South-Central L.A. about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 14.

According to LAPD Det. Carlos Velasquez, Hoover's niece, a 17-year-old girl, was sexually assaulted by a man at an apartment building at this address shortly before the shooting. She escaped, and ran to tell her mother and Hoover, her uncle.

The girl, her mother and Hoover then went to the apartment where she had been assaulted, and confronted the sexual assault suspect in the courtyard of the apartment building. The suspect pulled out a gun and shot Hoover. The girl and her mother ran away. The suspect also then fled. Hoover was pronounced dead at the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call LAPD 77th Street Division Det. Chris Barling at (213) 485-1385.

That is sad...I hope they arrest the piece of crap that commited both of these horrendous crimes. God be with that family...

He should have contacted the police first and let them handle it. It is dangerous confronting a suspect about a crime in which he might get 25 years to life. If the young lady was raped, there are numerous things which must be completed in order to successfully prosecute the suspect.

The sad part about this is that the person that got killed had a disablility with one arm.Now tell me what is it that he could do.He needs to be behide bars soon.My prays go out to he family.Auntie kept your head up (his mom).

Disablility with one arm, cowards don't care about disabilities there cowards!
The young brother tryied to come to his niece's rescue
who came to his, you have to be smart and think first there are consequeces for all actions.
I only hope his niece was telling the truth, and her uncle did not get laid out for a lie!!!

Gads how sad. He was trying to get a bad guy. I hope they catch the killer/rapist.

This situation is very sad. May God help this young man's family and his little niece.
