Michael Byoune, 19

Michael_woods_byoune19Michael Byoune, 19, a young black man, was killed by Inglewood police officers in the 3000 block of Manchester Boulevard about 1:40 a.m. Sunday, May 11. Byoune was declared dead at the scene, authorities said.

According to police, officers were in their patrol car when they heard gunfire. They saw a man running from a parking lot and getting into a slow-moving car. The officers fired several shots as the vehicle came toward them, police said. Byoune was sitting in the passenger side of the car.

The driver of the car was also wounded and taken to a local hospital, where he is recovering.  A third person, who was sitting in the back seat of the car, was detained for questioning.

Update: Inglewood police officials said they were looking for a gunman who they believe prompted two police officers to fatally shoot an unarmed passenger in an approaching car.

dang mike use to be myyy buddy man he use to call me every single day i remember when his granny passed he was so sad. man no 1 even told me he was gone i had to find out threw browsing threw here. i was so shocked he was such a sweetheart he loved me to death. dang larry didnt even tell me man im just so sad! u will always be missed mike rip!

Finding out is a great shock because he use to be my cousin. My family and my heart goes out to his mother i hope she can hope and strength in such a terrible situation. Micheal was good kid the only real trouble he ever did was ruin one of my books i lent to him for school. I hope the police department takes the correct legal procedures to discharge those who shot him. I know that los angelos may not be the safest place in the world and where he was not the greatest neighborhood, but shouldn't the best police be there? The ones who are fully trained to do their job correctly? I hope who ever shot him thinks of his mother. what a horrible thing for a mom to go through. My family and i send our hearts out to those who are hurting

Just like a scene out of Iraq. This is what happens in war zones like Los Angeles. Chaos. When the shooting starts, soldiers/police panic and shoot at anything that moves. "Who was shooting? Was it them?" "I think so, chase 'em!" "Was it them?" "Must've been, shoot 'em!" . . . "It wasn't them." "Well, better safe than dead. We're going home to our families tonight."

Fear not troubled bloggers......there will be an investigtion. Tiffany, you need to cool your jets until you get all of the information. Don't start capping rounds with the info you got from people on the block.

Jumping to conclusions will not assist you in arriving at the facts related to this tragedy. Does anyone know if the police attempted to stop the vehicle, and then the driver did not comply, and continued driving toward the police officers? That would be fairly important to know.

Don't judge these police officers until all of the facts are in.

These officers should not be villified as gang members. After all of the facts are in....then you can start being critical of their actions....if they are determined to be against the law.

Why would police shoot into a car that was not shooting at them in the first place. Arent they supposed to pursuit the vehicle and try to apprehend them?

The reason nothing happens is because this is as far as people will take it. Whose going to Inglewood City Council meetings? Who lets little crimes take place and say nothing? Certainly it is an attrocity, but so is the voter participation within the City of Inglewood. I decided to read this to see whether his family had posted any information on this young man, but what I found are persons criticizing the police dept. - but what are you willing to do to help the situation? Stop complaining and make a difference.

I live up the street from where this happened and the police have totally dissappointed me, I can not believe these things that the police get away with, I do not know the young man but when i heard this information I cried, and am saddened by his loss, the peoplea t rally burger (he and some friends were there getting a burger) said that there was already shooting going on, before he could get their burgers he ran to the car to get out of the line of fire just incase he may get hit from a bullet because no one knew where the shooting was coming from, the police only assumed it was him shooting they did not KNOW and that is what angers me, and what makes it any worse when they searched the boys and the vehicle there was no gun, weapon nothing in there or around the area. these boys did not get into trouble and were not into any gangs or drugs ( his mother said on the news) so it only proved that the police are the gang members harming innocent people,a nd taking lives, only thing is they can get away with it all, and not feel a thing, this is terrible, and it brings the question to me, if I hear gun shots around me, am I suppose to just walk slowly to safety so that I wont get shot up by the police???
this is all ridiculous and my heart and hand goes out to his mother, thanks to the ppolice force Her mothers day will be ruined for the rest of her life, and this may be hard for her eveytime this time comes around, Thank you Inglewood for protecting the innocent, you really do a great job...Mam (mother and family of this child) I do send my deepest condolenses, and I hope you get through this hard tragic un nessacary time in your life, I may not be able to do much, but I can and will help out the best that I can, Introduce you to some people and things of that nature, please contact me wehnever you would like to vent or anything tiff1283@sbcglobal.net
Take care and God Bless

This makes no sense at all....What is IPD going to say about this? Will this even make it to trial...Have the officers been taken off duty yet? This is utterly ridiculous. My prayers are with the mother of this young man. Her mothers days from this day forward are ruined because of this tragedy

This is insane...he had no gun, and was trying to get away from the shots, and the cops start shooting at him. From New York with Sean Bell to LA, it is all the same when it comes to police. What are we as a community going to do? I know his family must be suffering because of this. It is unfair and not right how this happens throughout the country.
