Michel Dumitriu, 50
Michel Dumitriu, a 50-year-old white man, was fatally stabbed during a brawl outside a bar in the 100 block of Rose Avenue in Venice at about 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Division responded to a radio call of assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, officers discovered the Dumitriu lying on the sidewalk. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Shortly after, officers were dispatched to Santa Monica hospital to investigate a patient with stab wounds. Authorities said that the detectives concluded that the patient was linked to the stabbing incident. Police later arrested Daniel Chavez, 32, a Latino man, on suspicion of murder. Chavez remains in custody at the hospital, police added.

I witnessed this horrific event. I am so grateful they have someone in custody.

To thankful. What exactly happened? Haven't seen any articles on it in the papers.

I also was there. The fight began inside Long's Drug Store, but instead of trying to do something to stop it, Long's just pushed them out onto the street , oblivious of the safety of those passing by. Just outside Long's is where the actual murder occurred.

Well ,the fight actually started at a bar on the boardwalk. Where the deceased apparently hit several patrons.
The victim was killed with his OWN weapon, after stabbing the other man. And threatening to kill him. Clearly self defense.

Thankful, that doesn't seem real fair. I was not there, but here is what I heard.
The fight started in a boardwalk bar, where the deceased hit several patrons. Including friend of the accused, whom he tried to defend.
The victim, went to the bar with weapons, including the knife that stabbed the accused.
The accused, after being stabbed managed to remove the attackers knife, which unfortunately was used against him, in self defense.
I am told the witnesses say, the victim was running down the street waving weapons and yelling that he was going to kill the accused.
Why you would just be happy that someone was jailed is beyond me, since the accused did NOT have any weapons when he went out on a friday night with friends, who he tried to defend.
Again I was not there, but i believe my post is pretty accurate, read the abc7 report on the first day, it clearly says that the weapon was that of the deceased. And clearly only used on him after the accused was in fact stabbed and managed to get it away, while saving his own life. .

G Kincaid... after reading your post which seams to just blame Longs Drugs. I contacted them.
They knew nothing, until police questioned them.
So why you would say you "SAW" and why you would make up tales of a business having no consideration for "unsuspecting passer bys" is beyond me.
So much for "eye witnesses" (whom lack credibility)

The fight started at the bar not in Longs Drugs, Longs didn't have anything to do with it.

The man was dead on the street not on the sidewalk, his head was touching the curb and he was laying in a pool of his own blood. I walked around the corner from dudley ave. and witnessed paramedics doing Cpr on him and then i heard them say."he's gone"
very shocking to see
I know the accused "Danni" but i never met Dumitriu.
Very sad and whats even sadder is that the police weren't called sooner and maybe this could have been avoided
