February 6, 2008 |  7:00 pm

Cesar Martinez, a 17-year-old Latino youth, was shot multiple times at 2609 S. Hill St. in South-Central L.A. at about 6:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29. According to Det. Kelle Baitx of LAPD's Newton Division, Martinez was on his way to pick up his sister from the bus stop when he stopped to talk to a friend. The youths were approached by a group of Latino men; one of them asked what gang Martinez belonged to, and when he didn't respond immediately, he was shot, Baitx said. The men fled on foot. Martinez was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:33 p.m. A 15-year-old Latino youth has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the shooting, Baitx said.

I know Cesar as a Student at Santee, he was a Senior in our school. He had passed the CAHSEE and was on his way to graduate High School. He was a student who was even thinking of going to college. He will be missed at Santee. R.I.P Cesar.
