I had been living between James Wood & 8th street along Oxford for 22 years until I graduated from college at the age of 22 when I moved to Santa Barbara. The gangs no longer hold a treat as much as they did in the Mid 80-90's, during the time that real gang warfare was happening. In my time living there I saw about 35 shootings, saw neighboors get purse snatched while going to work or coming from work, people dealing dope in the alleys and busstops, and who could forget the bloody spring of 92'. I could recognized the sound of a gunshoot by the age of Two. If this seems hardcore for you it's because youre not from the inner city of L.A. Nevertheless do be carefull, but don't over stress yourself either. Get to know the neighboors around you, be social, and always lock your doors (car & house). Goodluck to who ever is planning to move around that area.

Ive lived in this neighborhood for 4.5 yrs....there has been at least 2 shootings on this street per year. Whether it be on 8th & Oxford or Oxford & James M Woods...... in front of your buliding ,in the alley...everywhere.

Everytime spring break and the summertime roll around, so do the shootings. Im not sure if its initiation or if they're just getting out of jail.

Be extremely careful on Oxford bc there are tons of gang members lurking about.

The owners are definitely trying to clean this neighboorhood up, building wise at least. Personally, Im tired of escaping death and waking up to a type of screaming that is indescribable from gun warfare. TIME TO MOVE! :)

It happened at 11:50p, and 6 or 7 shots were fired. So sad man, so young. When will they stop??? God Bless their families.

I just wanted to say that I've lived in these apartments since July and have been having a blast getting to know people around here. While I didn't see the shooting happen, I was about to head outside until I heard the gunshots and that's when I ran back inside into my apartment.
It was just really sad to see this happen in a area where the crime rate has been improving. My heart goes out to the victim's and their families. Hopefully things will get better.

I was there when this happened. I watched that kid piss his pants while he lay dying. Horrible, simply a nightmare to watch.

A couple of residents living on Oxford ave set up candles and a little memorial for him in front of the Val de amor apt complex in front of where he was shot.

A few hours later I walked by the makeshift memorial only to see it completely destroyed.

Just a suggestion, but whoever is destroying these memorials left for the shooting victim may lead you to the killer. This happened on Sunday 3/2.
