Antwan Cole, 19

Antwan Cole, a 19-year-old young black man, was shot multiple times at the intersection of Main and 135th streets in Athens at about 11:23 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. Sheriff's deputies responded to a radio call of shots fired. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Cole with gunshot wounds. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:24 a.m.

He was my nephew and he was a good Kid. He was working and going to school. There was nothing negative about him at all. It is really, really sad that our young people are continuing to be killed for no apparent reason. Such a tragic end for someone who bothered no one and had some much to offer so many.

Antwan was our own personal Angel here on earth. This young man never ever in his entire 19 years of age said one unkind word to anyone. Everyone who knew him loved him, admired him, adored him and looked up to him. The person(s) who did this will truly have to answer to God, for Antwan was definitely one of God's chosen children. He played every sport with unbelievable passion, he graduated from high school with will and determination to go forward in life...Any job that he worked on, We knew him to be an asset to the company because of his hard work and dependability.
Yes, yes when God (not if) but when God chooses to seek revenge for Antwans untimely, so unnecessary death and the pain and suffering that was inflicted upon him and his family...LOOK OUT!!! The person(s) will definitely feel the rapture of God's anger. Until then our lives here on this earth will permanently be shattered, torn, scarred and pain stricken until we meet Antwan again on the other side. WORDS COULD NEVER AND WILL NEVER, EXPRESS OR DESCRIBE THE LOVE EVERYONE HAD FOR ANTWAN!!!!! There's only one thing I would like to say to the perpetrators and it is simply that
Antwan never and would never have any gang affiliation in his life, he was too peaceful, and if you had only known him for a moment, if you would have put your weapon down and took the time to find out what this young man was truly about...YOU WOULD HAVE LOVED, ADMIRED, ADORED AND LOOKED UP TO ANTWAN TOO!
I LOVE YOU ANTWAN AND LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR SMILES, HUGS, KISSES THAT YOU GAVE SO FREELY AND SO OFTEN.
LOVE, YOUR OTHER MOM.............LIZ

I miss Antwan so much. He had the biggest smile and the tightest hugs.. he was an amazing person. He made me a more compassionate being. I worked with him at the Pier and moved to NY but still we remained close. I don't understand why this had to happen. He always had wings but now he can finally fly. I love you Antwan, Rest in Peace.
Love, Sophie

Antwan was a student in my English class in ninth, eleventh, and twelfth grades! I knew him well and have many fond memories: his braids, his husky voice, his big 'Fro when his hair wasn't in braids, his kind attitude, how sleepy he was in the morning, how respectful he could be, and how much he tried to keep it right and do it right. I know he loved football. I know he loved his family. I know he was trying to make it, be independent, be grown. He was always mature for his age, always thinking about what was being said in class or what he was reading. He loved Fences by August Wilson! He liked the drama workshop I had one year when actors came and taught us all about a play on the revolution in Haiti--he said he wished all his classes could be like that.
Antwan was always honest, always said up front what he thought or what he believed. I always respected him for that. To his family, I extend my deepest sympathy. To his friends and the WHS students who have had, once more, to say good-bye too soon, I hope you keep your wits about you and remember you are good people with good hearts; remember your affection for Antwan, and remember to keep your heads high and your self-respect no matter what comes your way.

Has any new information concerning the death of this lovely young man been uncovered? I trust and pray that you are doing all you can to bring the person or persons involved in this dastardly crime to justice!
Thank you.

When i first heard the news i couldnt believe it. I was out of town in school and i cried the whole day. I remember sitting next to Antwan in Spanish class and he would always make me laugh and bring life to the whole class. I remember Antwan coming with me to go shoppin for my bday and how we all use to kick it at Korys house. I even remember u tellin anthony and Kory how u had a crush on me. Such great memories, that i will forever cherish. He will TRUELY be missed. Never in a million years would have thought your life would be snatched from you by senseless people. You were such a kind hearted and sweet person and it brings tears to my eyes as i type this message.
R.I.P. ANTWAN COLE, I LOVE YOU AND I WILL SEE YOU SOON.MAY UR WARM SPIRIT AND KIND HERT LIFE ON IN ALL OF US

I am sooooooooooo very saddened to hear about another young black man, which was someone so special gunned down again. I have never met Antwan, but I wish i did, so i could have offered him a ride home that nite.. My cousin was an innocent victim of a drive by shooting in broad daylight... May 2nd of this year marked the aniversary of my cousin death and no one is serving time for his death. Each day is hard and there is not an hour that goes by that i dont think of my own cousin, so i know how Antwans death has really been hard to deal with. To Antwans family, I WILL KEEP YOU IN MY PRAYERS... I will also pray for the coward whom took Antwans life is caught for commiting this senseless act...
********************Sharing in your sorrow********************
Thinking of you and wishing
I could be there
to hold your hand
