Jonathan Fernandez, a 25-year-old Latino man, was shot in the head in the 1900 block of Pine Avenue in Long Beach at about 12:05 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he later died. His time of death was recorded at 11:15 a.m. Three other people were also shot and taken to the hospital; one is in critical condition. According to Long Beach police officials, Fernandez was among a group of people celebrating the new year in the backyard of a house. A suspect shot Fernandez and at the crowd, then fled. Update: Long Beach Police have arrested Glenn Cox, 21, and two youths; a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old on suspicion of murder. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Officer filed one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder, and a gang enhancement charge against Cox and the 17-year-old youth. All three have been documented as gang members.
