Almiria Herrera, 28

December 28, 2007 | 12:32 pm

Almiria Herrera, a 28-year-old Latina woman, was shot in a backyard in the 2100 block of East 112th Street in Watts at about 10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17.

Herrera is a mother of four who worked for the city parking-enforcement detail. Her family shares two homes on a lot on this location. Two to four black men came to the back house on this date to rob the members of the family occupying that unit. Herrera, and other family members who live in the front house, came outside and interrupted the robbery. There was yelling. One of the suspects fired a shot, striking Herrera. They ran on foot without taking anything. She was taken to a local hospital, where she died.

Another senseless murder before the holidays. It's a shame. My heart goes out to the family during this tragic time.

This is another tragedy that has hit the community of watts. I am so saddened that a hard working responsible mother of 4 children would be shot and killed. During this time of the Holiday's I hope that we can provide some support for this family and gifts for these innocent children.

I would like to say to those who know but are acting like they don't. GO TO HELL and may KARMA come back and may your death come in a triple action. To the locals in our WATTS hood please know that it was senseless and stupid for any actions taken to get what you WANT and what you NEED. Taking someones life for your gain should be the biggest punishment here on earth. My love and compassion goes out to that family. What a shame when you can't even trust your own neighboors. What happend to we have to stick together and get along? Is that too much to ask for? I am deeply sadden this was just too close to home for me.

Jill, I just read the profile of you and this blog in Los Angeles Magazine. I don't know how you do it. Thanks for bringing these terrible stories that happen every day and would NEVER GET REPORTED to light.

All i can say is why? why? Im a mother that is now so freaked out to even go
to the damn Market this crazy &&^% needs to stop Please all we have to do something this innocent mother is gone now her children motherless and now what are u happy you that did this horrible action did u get what you wanted
Man all I can say Is Karma at you. This is so sad this poor mother shes gone her cjildren now what. Im sooo sooo upset about this Pray for this family People they need all the prayers thay can get

Not only is it a terrible tragedy but why was it reported in such small print in the L.A. Times?? If this happened in Brentwood it would headline on the front page. On the other hand, this probably wouldn't happen in Brentwood because there, most people have more than they could ever need.

I know the family and all are warm, kind and close-knit. We feel your pain at YOHS. We are praying for all of you.

Please, somebody come forward and provide police with the information they need. Do it anonamously, just point the cops in the right direction.

this is such a tragedy

this is so sad that a mother will not be able to see her kids grow up

To the family of Almira Herrera...we would like to send our prayers to you and ask if someone could post any information or a link on how to make a donation to her family.

This incident has not left our minds and we hope justice will seek out those who created this tragic event.

God Bless the Herrera family.

First, to the family of this young lady, May God bless you and give you strength. You sound like a hard working, close knit family. I'm sure you will all help and support each other. Please don't let this give you a bad impression of all black people. Those sorry, poor excuses for men do not represent most black people. I really hope that some day we can all live together in peace.
