Shavar Davis, 16, a black youth, was shot in the torso at the intersection of 92nd Street and Budlong Avenue in Athens at 12:56 p.m., and died at 1:37 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at King-Harbor/UCLA hospital. Drive-by shooters roared up. A passenger in the front right seat leaned out and fired. Davis fell near a small grocery/liquor store that was closed at the time. Athens has been one of the most hard-hit areas of the region this year in terms of homicides, especially this area along Budlong. More information to come on this death.

RIP Peace young guy that didn't have a chance to become a man in society. Someone took that away from you and your family. You are in a much better place now... where you don't have to suffer from this world full of greed, drugs, and every other devilish thing out here. I am just writing because I live in the Athens area. I hear guns shots mostly ever night in this area. It makes me sick to my stomach and I wait every night for my 18 yr old daughter to come home so I can rest with ease. I see the sherrifs pass by all day. I still can't understand why so many killlings are around here. I can honestly say if I had the money to move out of the hood today, I WOULD DO IT IN A HEARTBEAT. I have 3 more children to raise from 10mos, 7yrs,6yrs and I am hoping to be far away from this place (L.A) very soon. I have to give my kids a chance to see how life should be. It's just a hard cycle to break since I too was raised in LA all my life and so has my eldest child. What I am trying to say is this place has be tainted with the devil and theres no coming back. They best thing I can think of is to get the HELL out of HERE! Can you belive I too was a "Gangtas" before getting my life back together and finding out that the homies on the streets didn't have my back...and that my only homies were always around...they were just called "FAMILY" I needed to grow up and I am glad I did. I never knew I would be here today. Life is way to precious to chance it..
Good luck to all and I pray for the safety of all the hardworking citizens in LA!

My deepest prayers go out to the family. To all those who knew, loved and mourn this young man, please impress upon everyone that you know that speaking up doesn't make them a snitch. What it does is save lives and get the murderers off the street!
It is such a tragedy to see how many of our people are falling everyday ... and for no other reason than being Black.
God give strength to those who know to come forward and tell what they know that will ease the hearts of these mothers over the loss of their children and assist the authorities in putting the parties responsible in jail for a long time so that when they get out, if they live to get out, they will have the realization of just how precious life is.

it's a sad day when after some thirty years of these senseless killings we still destroy our black children future, i was once a menace to the street of los angeles but now i work to give these streets back to our community, for over one year i personally have conducted real peace with the rivals of my neigborhood and we have come together to bring peace to three gangs that have had hatre for 30years but we obtain this peace because US original members have taken the HOOD back, peace can be obtain through GOD because i was one whom did not think about God but something funny happen to me and i have been really touch by GOD. and my non-profit is called CURE and we are in the Athens Area and now the police keep telling Los Angeles that the Athens Area is Hot and that is not true because from Imperial to rosecran and main to crenshaw wehave peace all the gangs in the Athens Area, i'm sorry for the lost of this young man life, And i would like to personally apologize to the mother of this young man because i was a key in building young men up to kill but GOD has touch my life now i am teaching the young men around Helen Keller Park that they can walk without the fear of dying before they reach 21 and we have put a youth football program over there we are now taking those OLD SHOES off our kids because if i was the problem then i must be the solution WE must stop killing each other and start teaching each other that there is No reason to hate because we all are GODS children so all you OG's lets step to the front and teach our young homies that they do not have to kill because they are killing for the wrong reason and do not know why they kill everybody says it behind revenge but its not these killings arefor the reckoning and that is the SAD thing so lets come together as MEN not boys andthen these killings will stop.
