Joe Alvarado, 22

Joe_alvarado22_3Joe Alvarado, 22, a Latino man, was shot multiple times while sitting in his car on Saturday, Dec. 22, at about 5 p.m. in the 800 block of Mines Avenue in Montebello. His friends took Alvarado to Beverly Hospital minutes after the shooting. He was transferred to County-USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:56 p.m.

Neighbors who knew Alvarado said he was happy, and funny.  "He had a heart that was just too big to crush," said Vanessa Dominguez, 16, hands over her heart. She called him by the nickname "JoJo." Neighbors said Alvarado worked as a repossession tow truck driver for his uncle. His plans were to save money, move in with his girlfriend and start a family, Vanessa said.

On the day of the shooting, Dominguez was upstairs. "I had my hands near my head when I suddenly felt warm," she said. "My hands started to shake and I had a feeling like something bad was about to happen. That's when I heard someone scream, 'They shot Joe!' "

MAN IMMA MISS HIM ALOT HE WAS SUCH A FUNNY GUY..HE WAS MY BRO IN LAW....IMMA MISS DOUBLE DATING WITH HIM.

did they ever find the people that did it or whats goiing on with this case is it a cold case just sending my regards to his family

observer,

USC County Hospital isn't one of the best trauma centers because of the shootings around the areas. I think you should look into why that hospital has such a good trauma ER. To say that the shootings is why is not factual....

ER Dr.

Doesn't look like the Beverly Hospital is qualified to handle severe trauma in their ER. Just because a hopstial has an ER doesn't mean they handle traumas. USC County is the largest, and one of the few, trauma hospitals in LA. That's why they often airlift people to county from the far away counties after car accidents. Sad to say, but USC county is most highly qualified for trauma incidents because of all the shooting in the local areas.

my question is, why did they have to transfer him to county hospital?

Im truely sorry for the family loss, I grew up in the area and the apartments along mines has always been known to have all types of problems and Im sure it still is, with graffiti, robbery and assults the shame of it montebello is a nice place but many just dont care, I hope parents begin to rein their children in and start taking responsiblity.

To Joe's family I'm sorry for your loss. I went to LMI with him. We were in the same class in the 5th grade, and from what I remember he was always joking about something or other. Sorry about your loss.
