On Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, The Times launched a new version of the Homicide Report. You have arrived at the old blog.

Readers can no longer post new comments on this site, but we encourage you to join the conversation on our new site. The updated Homicide Report features an interactive map and searchable database of the more than 2,600 homicides in L.A. County since January 2007, when Times' reporter Jill Leovy first started this blog with the goal of covering each one.

Comments prior to Jan. 26 will, at least for now, remain archived here, with links provided in the new database.

If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail homicidereport@latimes.com, and we will do our best to respond.

Heriberto Corpus, 20

December 28, 2007 | 12:43 pm

Heriberto_corpus_20 Heriberto Corpus, 20, a Latino man, was killed along with Felimon Contreras, 29, (below) in a double homicide at 17049 San Jose St. in Northridge. Both were shot multiple times. Their time of death was recorded as 2:20 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20. The two acquaintances were inside a house together, said LAPD Devonshire Det. Mike Fesperman. Contreras' girlfriend came home about 2 p.m., and found them both there, dead, and called police. There was no sign of a break-in. Both men were longtime residents of the San Fernando Valley. Corpus lived with his mother in Pacoima. They had probably died sometime mid-morning or early afternoon.

My heart breaks for Heriberto's mother. She tried so hard to steer her son's in the right direction after her husband passed away. There are so many broken hearts from this tradgedy. One is his little sister who I had the pleasure to teach when she was in the sixth grade. She has nightmares over the death of her brother. Whoever did this, I hope you ask God to forgive you and that you turn yourself in or make an attempt to make amends by doing good with your life. You have no idea how many of his relatives hearts you have broken.
Sincerely,
A concerned teacher
