Timothy Crawford, 32
Timothy Crawford, 32, a black man, was shot at the intersection of McKinley Avenue and Alondra Boulevard in Compton at about 6:03 p.m. Dec. 28. Crawford and a friend were driving away from a liquor store, said Lt. Gil Carrillo of Sheriff's Homicide Bureau. Crawford was in the passenger seat. They stopped at a stop sign, about to turn. A black man or youth standing on the curb, and "for unknown reasons" fired a gun into the car. Crawford was wounded; the driver was not injured and drove him to his house, which was only a block away, and paramedics came there, and took him to a hospital, where he died shortly after, at 8:08 p.m.

After being in the army for 6 years, participating in Dessert Storm war and coming out of the Army as a ranger, my oldest son found a job at a medical equipment company. While delivering some merchandise in Compton, a teenager approache him from the back, put a gun on his head and demanded his waller, my son threw his wallet on the floor, the guy picked it up, put his gun on my son's head again while saying:"Good bye." At that moment some people stopped by, I guessed that the guy got scared and ran away. God saved my son from being on the list of the coroner's statistics. Absolutely nothing that has been done so far to deal withs gangs in Los Angeles has worked. We, the law abiding citizens are tired of hearing or watching on the TV news of shootings and senseless murders, on daily basis. Something drastic has to be done to eliminate gangs in Los Angeles. The authorities, since some of those gangs have more members than some police departments, could involve the National Guard, and in a joint effort with local law enforcement agencies, could search every single home in gang infested areas, identify and encarcerate gang members, confiscate their weapons, drugs, money, etc. and thus erradicate this prob lem forever, instead of just talking about gangs. A DRASTIC SOLUTIONS HAS TO BE TAKEN ASAP, before more innocent llives are taken by these assasins. No more gang programs that so far have been unuseful. Let's do something to erradicate the problem. Another thing, how can it be that gangster from inside prisons run streets gungs? I cannot believe that our legal system is unable to control those gangsters.

It's unfortunate that we begin this year with a vigil. This young man was not involved with gangs nor did he deserve to die. A vigil will be held in his honor Jan 8th at 6pm 500 Block of Clymar in the City of Compton. (154th and Avalon)

The LA times or any other media is not responsible for any of these
murders . The people who commit these murders , and to some some extent
their supporters are sloely responsible. Also, residents who live far away
are not responsible either. Most are gang or domestice related , plus
alcohol and drugs play a big part . Don't blame the police either.

Another senseless murder in Compton of a black male by another black male.
I guess you can't go to a liquor store in Compton after dark.

Why you say? Dosen't the LA times say that the murder problem for Los Angeles is "not particularally bad"? The Tmes is outraged about the 899 deaths in Iraq for 2007, but stays silent about the 820 murders in and around Los Angeles for 2007. Where is the outrage?

What is done in the city limits of Los Angeles to stop crime? It seems like nothing is done as senseless murders are done on a daily basis. Something seriously needs to be done here. Is it because they are black and Latino? That is one reason why our family moved out of Southern California and relocated in Texas where there is minimal crime. These is a crisis and a state of emergency, yet nothing is done. Why?
