Yaneth Ordorica, 17

September 18, 2007 |  2:35 pm

Yaneth Ordorica, a 17-year-old Latina, was killed, and her boyfriend, a 21-year-old Latino young man, was wounded in a drive-by shooting at 1037 Torrance Blvd. near Catalina Street just north of Harbor-UCLA hospital.

Yaneth and the young man were walking down Catalina when suspects in a car drove up and shot them. She was pronounced dead at the hospital; he was treated for wounds to the arm and released. He was her boyfriend for two years, documented by police as a gang member. But she wasn't. She was a high-school student. She was earlier, incorrectly, identified as a 21-year-old woman. Sheriff's Dets. Ken Parry and Dan McElderry seek leads. (323) 890-5500.

UPDATE: This case is cleared by arrest. Black suspects are in custody.

The area where this happened is in Torrance Tortilla Flats neighborhood. All those streets running along Torrance Blvd. (Catalina, Milton, Raymond, Berendo, etc) are claimed by this decades old Latino gang. Interesting enough, a few spots down on the Homocide Blog, a 17yr old young man was shot and killed on Western and 204 st. This area is less than a few miles to T-Flats and is claimed by the 204st Gang. This gang made headlines, in December I believe, when its members shot and killed a young 14yr old African American girl by the name of Cheryl Greene. Police charged the shooters with a hate crime and the law in this neighborhood has been swift and heavy. Anyways, back to this case. These 2 neighborhoods were once one gang and split in the mid 80's and have been warring ever since. It would be interesting to see if these deaths are related. The young man killed on 204 and Western was named Martin Garcia. He was killed when shooters asked him where he was from. A typical gang challenge, Is it conicidental that Martin Garcia was killed Saturday evening and these two were wounded Sunday? Maybe a coincidence? Never-the-less, something might be brewing between 204 and T-Flats. At any rate, it is very disheartening to see all these young people die over senseless violence. Rest in peace to both of these young people.

Carson Citizen is referring to this post from the past weekend

Harbor Gateway: A Latino youth, 17 years old, was shot at 20420 Western Ave. in LAPD's Harbor area, and was transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he died. The suspects were two Latino men or youths in a silver minivan. "Where are you from?" they demanded.

CC's speculation may be more than a little idle. A Daily Breeze blogger, trying to prove that "Latino Youth" got what he deserved, linked his myspace page on their article's blog. If you look at his friends list, you will see that many of them knew both "Latino Youth" and "Latina Woman".

Odawg what's your point? Just cause these two or so knew each other they are suppose to get along? I don't think so. No one said these 2 gangs shootings are related but I find it interesting that they both war with each other and this happened on consecutive nights? Can you put the link to the daily breeze blog so we can see this.

Carson Citizen, Here's the link to the Daily Breeze article. The comments O'Dawg is referring to are posted by someone named Frank.

If you look at the myspace page it appears that Martin (Big Chunky) and Yaneth (Janet) are from the same area because some kids have rip for both Martin and Yaneth. It appears both were in the 204st gang or very close to gang members from 204st. It was definitely interesting to see the comments from the different people. Some people writing about the killings 204st has committed and others telling what a good person Martin is. I guess the kids don't understand why some people hate gang members.

Carson Citizen -

My point is that it may not be coincidence given that there is strong evidence that they knew each other. They definitely had many friends in common as evidenced by his myspace page. The article should still be fresh on the Daily Breeze main pages, but the blog article may not. Tthey have been censoring the blogs due to a s*#^storm started when they tried a little too hard to clarify that the Janet shooting occurred in Los Angeles as opposed to Redondo Beach where there is another Torrance and Catalina.

IF YOU HANG OUT WITH GANGMEMBERS YOU DIE WITH GANGMEMBERS PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW THIS BY NOW THATS WHY I STOP,AND I LOVE THIS FREASH AIR, AND BESIDES I DONOT FEEL LIKE BEING EATTEN UP BY WORMS ANY TME SOON.

Maritn and Janet's friend who claimed to be 204st gang member has now set his Myspace page to private. In other words the general public can no longer see his myspace page where he claims to be 204st gang and has pictues of Martin aka big chunky and Janet. In the dailbreeze there were many comments from friends of victims say they were good people.

none of you have a clue of what is going on or what is happeining the kid was not from 204st neither was the girl this was a case of somebodys got to go on either side of the tracks

In today's DB there was an article about a gang sweep in Carson/Compton. It stated that the person suspected in Ms. Ordorica's murder was apprehended. Kudos to the police...if they got the right guy. At least they are still working the case.
