Will Donald Jr., a 39-year-old black man, suffered a broken jaw during a fight at 7710 S. Denker Ave. in South-Central Los Angeles at about 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, and died three days later of complications from his injuries, said LAPD 77th St. Det. Carlos Velasquez.

Donald was treated at California Hospital and sent home to recover after the fight. But once at home, he began to feel ill. He went to a Kaiser center in Baldwin Park for treatment.

By then, the swelling in his neck from the broken jaw was making it difficult for him to breathe. Doctors performed emergency surgery to aid his breathing. Donald suffered cardiac arrest on the operating table. He died at 12:06 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, and what had been an assault case became a homicide.

(This is the final post of 19 in the coroner’s list of Los Angeles County homicide victims between Aug. 28 and Sept. 3.)
