The Homicide Map has been updated. Go to right tab on top of the map to see the picture gallery.
The Homicide Report took a two-week break at the end of August, and missed at least 47 homicides as a result. HR is still catching up. The number is large but represents only a slight uptick in homicide compared to the rest of the year, not unusual for August.
Hit particularly hard in late August was LAPD Southwest (the police precinct around the University of Southern California) and LAPD Rampart (MacArthur Park), which has been mostly quiet this year but which saw two homicides in one day.

If I can make a suggestion for an addition to the Homicide Map:
estimated or approximate Time of Day each homicide occurred.

I think u should have a report or story about how the murder rate went down and the possible reasons as to why it did , such as better economy , better policing etc , people come on here and see the amount of murders and think crime is getting increasingly bad when in reality it's not it's going down , most people don't know we had almost 3 times this many murders in 1993 and a higher overall crime rate ,los angles is relatively safe if your not a gang member

Joe, i respectfully disagree with you. however statistically you might right about the muder rate. However stats can prove any you want. An I don't feel like the streets are safe, even if you are not a gang members.

Joe is correct. A few zip codes have most of the homicides. Dont go into those area's and you're relatively safe.
Some neighborhoods haven't had a homicide in years.
